I have amd64bit 3000+, graphic ati radeon x550, tv tuner video capture card model bg+dk wt-951 tf-bk, 512 ram, mb abit nv8, and I use virtualdub, pinnacle studio 9 and I also tried flyds. Now, I would like to capture some hi8 recordings from my Canon g2000 (s-video output) to my hdd (to burn it after to dvds) but I am not satisfied with results. Do I need some extra capture card (firewire) or do I need different software to get the best results I can get on my computer configuration? If you can advice me, what kind of video capture card can I buy to get solid capturing and quality of my hi8 recordings? Or do I need some better software? Btw, I never get more than 24,80 fps with huffyuv codec on 720x576, pic video. Thank you for your efforts and advices, hipperhip
When Captureing with HUFFYUV you should allways capture to a second Hard Drive other than your Main Drive or you will drop a Lot of Frames.... Why don"t you Capture Directly to Mpeg-2/DVD Format instead of To HuffYUV?? There are some Pretty good Mpeg-2 Capture programs out there Like WinDVR....Captureing to Mpeg-2 doesn"t use a Lot of Disk Space so you Won"t drop Frames but it does Need a Fast PC which you have and you won"t have to convert the Files after captureing as you Can Just author the Files to DVD with a DVD Authoring Program..... What I REALLY need to know is 1)what kind of capture card would be the best solution to capture from hi8 to hdd WITHOUT losing any quality and 2) is my capture card o.k., (wayjet tv tuner video capture card brooktree bt878 chipset...) to get quality of my hi8 at least? (I really want to know how NOT to loose any quality in capturing process) Is it really all about capturing card or do that depends more on software I run? Well The BT878 Chip is only a 8bit decoder Chip so it doesn"t produce the best quality Pluss the Chip was developed close to 10 years ago so it is very old technology.... If you really want to get the Best Quality Captures then I would suggest a Capture device Like the "Canopus ADVC-110" which is a Professinal Level Analogue To Digital Converter that uses a 24 Bit Decoder Chip and uses Hardware DV Compression and Transfers the Video to your PC in DV AVI Format which is the Format used in Digital Camcorders and Many Movies are Shot in this Format also.... The Canopus ADVC-110 will Cost you about $250 and it Connects to your PC Via a Firewire Port and with this device you will Loose the Least ammount of Quality Possible and Since it Captures to DV AVI format you can edit it Many Times without any Quality Loss meaning you can use an editing Program to add Filters to Clean up the Image and Adjust the Color and Sharpness and then use the editor to Render the File to Mpeg-2/DVD Format and author it to DVD without any signifigant quality loss.... You can Find Info on the Canopus ADVC-110 if you Do a Google search... I did not even know the fact of 8bit decoder chip...(!? :-o ) Now I am planing to buy some of this recommended capturing card, (but considering the fact I live in Croatia :-/ ) I am thinking to buy some of cheaper capture card like VIDEO CAPTURE CARD, AVERMEDIA DVD EZMaker Pro USB 2.0? If you want to Go a Cheaper Rout and are Going to be Going strictly to DVD then I suggest something like the "Hauppague WinTV PVR 150" which uses a Hardware Mpeg Encoder Chip to Compress the Video in the Card to Mpeg-2/DVD Format so the Captured Files do not need to be encoded to be Put on to DVD which saves you from Looseing Quality From re-encodeing and it Produces Pretty Good Quality.... The one you are looking at also Has a Hardware Mpeg-2 encoder but there are some Problems with USB Capture devices which makes the PCI Option Better because it is a Lot more Stable.... Cheers
