Hey everyone. I have a DIY pc with the msi ati xpress motherboard. The 2 front usb are not powered and the back/motherboard ones are self powering. I put my girlfriends pny attache usb drive in the front ports and the drive now doesn't work. It comes up as an unrecognized device. when i plug it into the back, it doesn't light up anymore and doesn't work. I also borrowed a friends usb gamepad and the same thing happened. When i first plugged it in front all it did was continually vibrate (a gamepad feature) and when i plugged it in the back it did the same. It worked perfectly on his pc but his were plugged into self powering usb ports. Any and all help is appreciated.

Is there a way i can replace the usb connector on the devices to connect to the back of the pc first? I definately think it was the front ports that ruined the devices considering they all worked great on everyone else's pc's for months:(

take a look at the usb connectors at the front of case, look at the wiring that goes from motherboard to case front & look at the motherboard connector & surrounding area that the case cable plugs into for fried components.
