Hi mwhittak This it for the log? Sometimes when Vision chokes during the transcoding part the log will show memory, drives, version of Nero etc. Looks like you using 6.6.0.18? This the only avi Nero freezes on? Some suggestions - no multi tasking and keep as much memory free as possible. Do a disc defrag and run a registry cleaner like the free ccleaner. Use the issues and cleaner options. Check and make sure all your drive are in DMA mode and not PIO mode. Current transfer mode should also list DMA mode. Here's a guide.
Hi- Thanks for the reply. I defragged a couple of days ago, but it never hurts. Dma is still on: I just had to do the uninstall for windows to allow dma-it was in pio. At this time, fingers crossed, it's still showing ?ultra 5?(IIRC). Right now I am writing it to hard disc to see if I can burn it to a dvd after that. I don't know why that would possibly help-just grabbing straws. I'd say you're right about the log file. It doesn't look typical, and I had to power button restart. I wasn't multi-tasking. I went to bed and set the screensaver thing where it wouldn't "sleep". Pardon my terminolgy-I know my way around fairly well, but the terms sometimes escape me, lol. Another thing is I had it set on high priority and it was pushing my cpu's at 100% the entire time. Is that typical? I usually don't investigate when things are going well. For the hard disc write, I left the priority at normal. Well as of now, I am multi-tasking. I'll let you know in 40 or so minutes if it writes. Thanks,
It froze. I am running ccleaner and defragging. Is there a nero version that doesn't lock up on avi's?
Does it freeze on all avi's? Or just this one? Try running Nero in normal priority - I think high will use alot more resources.
I tried burning straight to disc in normal priority and it froze. I don't know about any other avis. Nero is usually hassle free so I don't pay attention. I downloaded this movie from Utorrent. It's DVD DVX, does that make a difference? thanks,
That shouldn't make a diff. Give another program a shot and see if it's just Nero. Here's 2 that have trials - CovertXtoDVD will leave a watermark on the trial. Or WinAVI. Not sure if that trial leaves a watermark. You can then burn the files with Nero.
