    Hello~!

I got my slim PS2 chipped about a month ago or so by a friend of a cousin who knew . . . and so on. The modchip is supposed to be Apple 2x he had told me and it would cost me a total of 125$ Can.

Well I did get it chipped and it -did- work but sometimes my PS2 would freeze at the navigator menu where it says "Browser" and configurations. So I had to completly turn off my ps2 and wait some time before it would finally play some of those verbatim 16x dvd's I have.

And this week, it finally happened. It froze up yet again at the navigator menu but my PS2 would NOT turn off. So I had to unplug it and soon after that a burned plastic smell appeared. At first I was sure it was the modchip and it may be but now the Laser looks like a broken crystal/mirror with many cracks in it.

Now it is obvious the laser is broken since I am unable to play movies, music, games and backup games as well as PAL ones on my NTSC PS2.

Now my question is, is it possible the guy may have made an error when he installed my modchip? It had never happened before with the games I had bought but with the backups ones, it was the first times ever my PS2 would freeze at the navigator menu many times.

I feel sad now that my PS2 is dead but is it possible?! Is it his fault?:\ Could he have ripped me off? I haven't called him yet because I work a lot but I soon will and wanted to know what you guys were thinking before. Thanks!

IF it's a version 9 through 12 console and he didn't do a laser fix to reduce coil focus drive voltage then yes the mod is the most likely cause of the fried laser. when preventions are not taken the coils can be driven to 12v and this will destroy the coils as well as the lens.
