I seem to be having problems connecting to my Xbox with my router hooked up. Any tips or anything on how to do it.

Go into your xbox setting change the Ip settings to:
    Static IP: Yes
    IP: 192.168.0.157
    Subnet:255.255.255.0
    Default: 192.168.0.157
    SAVE THE SETTINGS!!!
Go to your computers "network connections" -> Properties->TCP/IP Settings
    Set them to:
    IP:192.168.0.1
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Default IP: 192.168.0.1

Now turn off your xbox, open Flash FXP, go to quick connect, type in 192.168.0.157 then xbox as the password, turn on your box, then hit connect... that should work for you. try it out.

i got this off another forum for you it seemed to work for the other bloke you never know it may work for you too

I knew that was for a crossover cable but i dont see why youd have to do that for a router too. Ill try it later and see what happens.

    you could also try this
you might also have to open up some ports. go into your router settings, usually in IE type 192.168.1.1 or whatever your External IP is, and then you want to locate the port forwarding options, open up ports 0 to 65535 for UDP and TCP or uploading and downloading, and enable it, save changes reboot router and computer and then try again
    hope they have helped

Wont that defeat the purpose of the firewall completely??? Not that i really care im not afraid of getting hacked or anything but opening that kinda port range is kinda too much i think.

I didn't have to open any ports to ftp to my xbox. I have a Linksys BEFSR41

    ok then i found this
    Xbox Network Connection using Router

This is another common network configuration.
Step #1: Plug your network cable(RJ-45 cable) that comes from your modem into the WAN port of your router.
Step #2: Take an RJ-45 cable and run it from one of the ports of the router, directly to the Network Interface Card (NIC) installed in your computer.
Step #3: Take another RJ-45 cable and run it from a different port of your router directly to your xbox.

**NOTE** In steps #2 and #3, you should not use a port that is directly beside the "uplink" port on your router, if your uplink port is being used to connect to another routing device.** If your router has a built in firewall, you will need to forward ports 8602 both incoming and outgoing to the internal ip address of your pc. Consult your device manaul for port forwarding.

hopefully you have the correct cables as been as you've tried a few things

This post is assuming you do not have a wireless router.

You should have your computer auto find an address from your router – assuming you have a cable modem or DSL modem connected to the router. The Xbox should not be static if you are using a router, check seamonkeys website: http://www.geocities.com/seamonkeyguides/evolution.html and follow his instructions. I have FTPed into my xbox with the router and with and without the network connected. I have also used a direct net cable (x-over cable) to my PC directly. For directly connect you should set a static IP on the xbox and PC of different value. I recommend getting a x-over cable and connecting directly as this is faster than going through a router and there is less chance of the packets getting lost or corrupt through the router, also routers like to crash when they are flooded with data especially if you have another computer surfing the web on the router at the same time you are copying games. I am sure some of you think that you have the best routers in the world and they never crash and they never corrupt data, but I have seen it on several occasions with different networks and it is not worth the risk. I also get around 1500-2000kb/s through the router and about 1500-5000kb/s with the x-over cable. Both ways work, setting up the x-over cable is a pain because I have to plug in the cable and set up static IPs on my PC but I am thinking about adding another network card to my computer and setting a static IP on that one and only connecting that to my xbox. That way I have one to my router for internet access and one for the xbox. Should work.
