Is it supposed to take over an hour simply to copy the files on the my hard-drive? I decided that compression is not a big issue anymore because even at 40% DVDs look clear on a big screen TV. Is there anyway to speed the process up or should I use different software?
I have slightly worse specs than that, but those time you are geting are ridiculous. Try a different software if yuo must, but if you run CloneDVD with nothing else running it should be the quickest prog out there.
I have a 3.2GHz CPU and 1GB Ram. Using CLoneDVD2 it can take up to 50 minutes to compress a DVD that needs high compression (50% compression). So with a 1.86 GHz CPU I would say yes it could take over an hour for a high compressed DVD to transcode (50% compression). Of course if you close all other programs and dont use the computer during the transcoding processes it will get done quicker. Also you could get faster transcoding if you rip the DVD to your Hard Drive and load that into CloneDVD2 instead of transcoding it from the DVD drive itself.
I have a 2.4GHz CPU and 512K RAM but it only takes me 36-38 minutes per movie to convert to the harddrive and burn to a DVD using CloneDVD. Maybe there is a setting about doublepassing it through or something that I have clicked off inadvertently. I am quite happy with the quality of my burns though.
Well the only tihng that changed for me so far is the compression. I really don't know why it's taking this long...
Start/Contorl Panel/System/Hardware Tab Now click on Device manager. then go down the list and click on IDE Controlers and it will branch out giving you primary and secondary IDE channels etc. Now check eacch channel and if 1 is in PIO mode change it to DMA mode. If it wont let you change it into DMA mode then you will have to right click on the channel that is stuck in PIO mode and choose to uninstall it. Then restart your computer and windows will then install it back in and it should be in DMA mode at this time.
