The First Tread to this topic was started in 2003 and over 800 posts were created and many think its time to create a new page! So here it is.

For all of us (including me),could a very kind user please post below the working guide for how a user/viewer of this forum will be able to softmod their new cube and it would seem like the new max drive is the way to go, so please tell us all just how its done!

With everything we know now from the past few years and problems we have been faced with (10mb cap on transferr speed), bios loaders, network connection problems etc, just how is it done now? Some awesome GC SoftMod Elite PLEASE post for us here!

Thanks to Afterdawn for this awesome site and thanks in advance to this user who posts the newest working tutorial and hopefully this new thread will help us all!! (for all our sakes!!)

I just posted a suggestion to Afterdawn a week ago that they would monitor this section more that they sticky a good guide when they see one here.

I would write a guide about everything i know about softmodding when i have more time. And someone would write a guide about using modchips. etc.

I'm starting to write my own guide(all softmodding and progs, no hardmodding). I've only done a little but it's getting there, and I am busy most of the time so progress might be slow.
I'll put up a way-too-early beta on my FTP so you can see how it's going
    ftp://linFox.serveftp.net
    login: 'cubetutorial'
    NO PASSWORD, enter anyhting
this FTP will only be up if my comps on, so if its down, wait a couple hours

EDIT: alpha 3 out, finished PSUL

Yeah, this will be helpful to me, because I think I'm going to buy a refurbished gamecube for 60 bucks soon. going to get a new case for it so that I can burn games on normal dvd-r discs. just need to know how to softmod the cube and make isos of the games.

yeah seems it is down :(

In my own experience the guide from 2003 is still good, I can do everything and it rips and streams games fine.

Seeing how I have a Viper GC chip I use the cobra 1.2 flash which has the GCOS ripper plug in on it and I rip games straight from the GC without using PSO and its faster too

hey djrazor, if i use the tutorial from 2003, should i use the very first one on the first page or that tutorial re-wrote on like page 8 or something. you are using a chip and i only wish to soft mod it and stream the games from my pc etc, not put a chip in.
Thanks again ppl for any help provided here!

yeah I use a viper gc chip, streaming games via the softmod to the gamecube is quite horrid, I hate doing it, i'd rather burn them to dvd-r and play them, better with the video

but when I started in this hobby I used the first tutorial and did everything step by step and I asked questions, if you have some just ask

I thought you had to stream the games to your computer to be able to burn them on dvd-r's? I just need to know how to back up games onto my computer so that I have the ISO's to burn to dvd-r's. I'm getting a new case for it so that I use dvd-r's. So, yeah... soft mod, new case, and burning games to disks, but how do I go about copying a game onto my computer's hard drive?

I'm getting to that on my tutorial. I'm getting to everything eventually. I mean I only started this like, uh, three days ago.
but for now - quick steps to backup:
    1.Upload GCOM v1.01 to cube.
2.Save image to comp with wget(google that)

EDIT: oh, and another quarter of an update on the tutorial...I'm gonna stop saying this here...just check my FTP every now and then

wow, people actually like it :))
anyway i got to ask something.
I'm trying to gather pictures of GCOM, but my TV Tuner Card can't handle 60Hz Mode, which GCOM runs in. (this wont affect any of you)
So all my screenshots are scrambled and unreadable. So can anyone with a better TV Capture Card please provide me with screenshots of every screen in GCOM. I'll be really grateful.
If you can get them, drop them off in my ftp(feedback folder). if you want ill credit you in the tutorial, so leave your name\screenname and a yes\no if you want to be mentioned.
    thanks to all.

EDIT: OK, I've written my first edition of the ripping section. Provided there are no errors, you should be able to rip you're games using this now.

hey! thanks for deleting dat txt file in ya feedback folder for me! As for GCOM, if i knew what it was/where i got it or whatever, i would start scanning the next for pictures that you need, just advise and i will gladly help!
Congrats on your work again, keep it up! (all my mates here love it!)

P.S. Also ive heard streaming games from pc to GC can be VERY choppy and buggy, so is there anything such as a streamable bios for softmods? http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=6959 was a site i found. Then this would allow us to play backed up games off dvd right?

ok, GCOM is the latest and best ripper out there, the official download and forum is at....just a sec...
    http://www.tehskeen.net/forums/showthread.php?t=492&highlight=GCOM
scroll down the page for v1.01

yes, streaming can be choppy, especially if the game relies heavily on streaming data/music/video (ie. Rogue Squadron); though if there is not much streaming and your network hardware support 100Mb, the pauses can be verry few, even nonexistant
Yes there are quite a few streamable bioses, GCoS, anaconda, etc. That URL you found points to a batch file someone made that bundles most of these bioses together, as well as psoload and other stuff. i haven't used it though.
I recommend GCoS, as it is being actively worked on and compatability is good. it is just uploaded like a regular .dol file.
the latest version is GCoS 1.5 teaser release 2, find it at modthatcube. Once you have your gcm, burn it to a minidvd, and use a bios to read them and play them. i havent actually been able to do this myself, because only relatively high-quality minidvds can be read properly(without adjusting the POT), and i cant realy find any Ritek G04 MiniDVD-Rs (use these) near me.
