Has anyone tried to do a full format of an internal drive? If so how long did it take? I'm on 24+ hours and don't want to turn my machine off if its suddenly about to complete. It is on the restore default settings message but the "bubble" still spear to be spinning.

    thanks in advance.

Are you trying to use the PS3 to format the Drive?

Yeah sorted now... basically it was part of a long running problem. The format had seemingly stuck at restoring system defaults despite looking like it was still doing something. I bit the bullet after 27/28 hours and switched it off.

managed to get to the system recovery menu and update firmware so it must have done something, all is now good!

It's always a good idea to do a full format on a new drive. If there is a problem with part of the disk, it is best to know when you are within the full refund period. I wouldn't use the PS3 for this, there are a slew of great PC apps that will do it better than sony could.

Not that will port the drive into a format that the PS3 will accept, It'll format it again. My big problem being that due to a crash during updating firmware, only the full format was available.

Not to worry all fixed, thanks for the input.
