    Hi everyone,
I just switched from an iPhone to a G1, and I'm on T-Mobile. I don't have a data plan, nor do I plan on getting one any time soon. The G1 I bought happens to have full 3G, even though I don't have a data plan. Is this normal? Is there a way to turn this off so I only use wi-fi? I'm afraid T-Mobile will charge me for this.

menu > settings > mobile networks > click on "Use only 2g networks" and that will stop the 3G networks.

All G1's are 3G capable phones....you can also turn on the wi-fi settings and have it automatically connect when you are within range.

Thanks for the answer. Will I get charged for using 2G networks?

If you don't surf the net while on the data network away from the wi-fi locations, it shouldn't, but call t-mobile just to make sure.
