Since getting my black DS lite i've been looking to replace my M3CF with a G6 lite, but from what i've read it only has colours for the White, Ice Blue and Navy DS Lites. Anyone know if/when a black case will be released for it? I could settle with the navy one if I really have to, but I would prefer black
I doubt there's going to be a flat out black casing, but the navy blue is so dark it might as well be black.
Thought as much, ah well. Perhaps I could hack my dust protector that came with my DS Lite and use that as the case for the G6.
That'll probably work. Might take some extra effort if the screw sits in an inconvenient spot for the PCB though. There's a video on YouTube where a chinese guy did that with the EZIV Lite, so I would assume the G6 Lite shouldn't be too troublesome..
So it looks like you would rather go with the G6 Lite rather then the EZ Flash IV micro SD? because i have a ds lite too and i want to get one too but dont know which one..? Can you help me make my decision...Thanks
If you want removable media and don't care about homebrew than get an EZIV Lite. If you want to use homebrew and removable media doesn't matter to you, then get a G6 Lite.
So are you saying that the EZ FLASH 4 Lite is not good with hombrew because i wanted to use both...Oh and what kind of things would i not be able to do because of the limited Storage space for the G6 Lite.
It's not good for homebrew since the EZIV Lite is a lot newer than the M3. Homebrew is usually designed to be compatible with as many flash carts/adapters as possible, but since the EZIV hasn't been around long enough for homebrew programmers to become acquainted with it, compatibility is rather poor at this time. The downside of limited storage is that if you plan on using your DS for video or large DS games then it can fill up rather quickly. Other than that, there really isn't anything bad about it. Just keep in mind that some games are around 115 megabytes (Bleach DS, Resident Evil), so it'll add up rather quickly. Unless you're willing to wait for homebrew to become compatible with the EZIV Lite, just get a G6 Lite. Eventually, homebrew will be compatible but there's no telling when that will be.
It's not just about being compatible with the new EZ4, its about being compatible with the 'new' SD cards and more to the point any 'non CompactFlash' memory. An M3 SD (and maybe even the G6) is going to be just about as incompatible as an EZ4 cart. I heard that the EZ Flash Team made MoonShell compatible with their/SD cards and gave the code back to the MoonShell author. So i hope we will see more SD compatible homebrew in a while. Now, thats not to say all homebrew will or wont work, GBA homebrew has been saving/working in the RAM/SRAM for years now and i would think at least some apps shouldn't need more then the standard system/cart RAMs... or something like that, funny how it goes, the more i learn the more i need to know.
SD adapters are almost as compatible as CF adapters for homebrew now, the EZIV is still far behind in compatibility with homebrew. I do not know of any homebrew that will not run on the M3 SD, I know of some that can't write to the SD card (such as DSLinux) but the program still runs, and can write to the SRAM of the device.
Team EZ Flash themselves even stated that the reason homebrew doesn't work well on it is because of the write code used on EZIV. The M3 miniSD works just fine with pretty much any homebrew you throw at it, and considering miniSD and microSD are just smaller versions of SD, the write methods don't change, only the physical size of the media does. That's why most miniSD and microSD come with SD adapters and are compatible with all SD based products.
