I'm surprised they haven't made it so you could at least use an external USB Hard Drive with the game cube....

well in theory you could but here is what you would need to do

1.develop a bios for the mod chip that would be able to access the high speed port on the base of the gamecube

2.develop a way for the hard drive to get power all the time

3.figure out how to devolp a adapter to connect the hard drive to the adapter to the high speed port

it can be done but would take so much sticking time it wouldn't be worth it

it is hard that is why nobody has done it and why if done nintendo would sue the pants off of anyone manufactoring it

just like when china was making illegal copys of gba games and the company that was doing it got sued for over 4 million dollers

Yea I also seen a diagram on how to install a hard drive. Im pretty sure someone will make one if theres money involved.

Just out of interest does anyone have any links to the specs and design of the GCHDD mod?

I'm not sure where I seen it or can't remember where I seen it,but it's out there you might get lucky with google or something like that.It is possible, but the needed programmers don't really hold interest in it.You see developers have been using mini harddrive cartridges that hold 8Gig on them. You can in theory hook it up where power is supplied all the time.It is more complicated than that though, power being supplied to it is just one step. You would have to install an operating system on the Cube,Linux would have to be installed. The hard part is finding someone that knows the drive codes for all GC versions, and it wouldn't hurt to get advice from other programmers that work on projects for other systems such as WinHiip an example(PS2 harddrive utility)and formatting tools from Xbox.I know you are probably thinking why look at the other consoles like PS2 and Xbox, well most of the utilities already created for those consoles have advanced functions that probably took a considerable amount of time working on.I was thinking why not port some of those utilities for GC,but you would have to recode parts of the utilities to pick up on the GC formats available and the ports you plan on hooking it up to.I just don't see it happening anytime soon not enough interest in making it,and would be time consuming creating the necessary applications to run it.

well i have been thinking if someone creates an updated version of SDloader that can run straight iso files from the sd card that would work, but then that got me thinking of a compact flash card to SD adapter like the ones you see in the PSP scene they are up to 36GB compact flash so if you could hook up the compact flash card to the SDadapter and write a code that boots straight ISOs of the card shouldnt that work?

just my idea and i think it sounds do-able

Yeah that sounds like that would work, but very expensive also. The problem with compact flash cards is the price,it would work but a harddrive would store more and cost alot less.A 4GB compact flash card is around $300-400 dollars maybe a little less not really sure, and if you use a 36GB compact flash card there is no telling how much that would cost.I don't know I could hook a harddrive to the Cube, but would need help from one of the GC gurus out there to code a program to work with it.

There is something at ModThatCube but it's still in very early stages. You might want to check it it's under Guides and Tutorials

well screw the 36gb thing i was using that as an example u know what i mean though, but i really think my idea could work for those of you have no idea what im rambling on about here is my idea on how it would
    ***MOD chip way***
Qoob pro- the dol file that accesses the SDloader menu is flashed to the qoob pro bios no Action Replay required :) this will access the SD card but what i vision instead of a SD card there, there will be a sort of adapter that will conect the SD to a Compact flash card or another mass media storage device (kinda like the PSP Datel hard drive), Some one will have to write a code for the SDloader to run ISO files and thats how it will work.
Other Mod Chips- create an ISO of the SDloader boot code that will make the cube go to the SDloader menu.

    ***Action Replay***
make the big ass SDloader code and run it that way select the iso and play.

the only hard part of my idea is writing the code to boot the iso, i know shit all about coding so, but as some one all ready had hacked the qoob bios and with the SDloader menu if they can combine them i think that would work as qoob bios boots iso files ( Again i dont know much about coding so dont laugh if that makes no sence)
also the SDadapter would have to be in slot B i dunno if that will be a problem as you will need your normal memory card in slot A to do the saving.....

i just thought i would post that as i have thought more about how my little project might work :)
