I have decided to conduct a quality check of the games that are on both the PSP and DS: this is to compare the quality of how the games look! For those who may not know the games quality differences.

Indeed, why have good graphics if the gameplay sucks?

I have both a PSP and a DS and have been playing on my DS alot more than my PSP recently.

Though, I did return the DS Burnout game 2 mins after getting it...compared to the PSP Burnout game it was crap (and glitchy)

so not all DS games are as bad as shown in some pics! what is the difference in quality of PSP and DS in spec. And why aint we seeing more 3D games for the DS, can it not cope?

The PSP is vastly more powerful than the DS, hence the better looking games. However where the PSP offers the same game experience we are all used to, the DS adds to the experience using the touch screen and microphone etc.

The PSP's processor runs at 222mhz (though it can be run at 333mhz using homebrew)

The DS's processor is only 67mhz.

The huge difference in specs is visible in the price of the consoles.

This situation is going to be repeated with the Nintendo Wii, which has much lower specs than the Xbox 360 or the PS3, but of course, will be much cheaper and more innovative.

true, but whats the point of paying money for another Gameboy with a touch screen so to say, i know its sick that the DS has internet and touch screen and all that but we all know that it is the games that sell a console.

Which is why the DS has such great games.

So you would be happy with the original greyscale Gameboy brick?

Technology advances, we buy the newer technology, most games for the DS are much better in gameplay and graphics to the Gameboy Advance.

Based on what you said, you don't like the PS2, Xbox360...or any other console that has had a predecessor.

Can I just ask, do you actually own a DS?

bruv, i dont ur getting the point i am trying to make! What i am saying is that from some of the images of the graphics of the games on the DS they seem no better then the ones on the GBA. (all that has changed is the way u play the games ie. pen/mic/etc.) But u say they are better!

Now if someone was to buy the DS to play some quality games and u people are telling them, Wow u can play with a pen so u should buy the DS that aint realy a truely valid reason to buy it!

dwarrior said: "Grafics => PSP , The rest => NDS"
Now how is the DS ment to be better on gameplay if the games on it are shit!

[when i make refernce to Gameboy or whatever i aint actually liking then to it, "figure of speech" & lets try to keep this related to the facts rather then opinions! by no means am i a fan of PSP but i aint about to slag it off when all i'm trying to do is actaully see the DS game graphics which DS has to offer]

I think it's actually you who's not getting the point. Good grafics don't mean it's a good game, 'bad' grafics doesn't mean it's a bad game.
You can have a first person shooter on the PSP with grafics even better than xbox360 (just an example); any decent shooter with 'bad grafics' will be 10x the fun on the NDS because of the touchscreen controls.

um...but the facts show the DS is better than a GBA even without a touchscreen, microphone etc.

And you didn't answer my question about owning a DS, so I assume you don't own one, which is why you don't understand anything I am telling you.

And when I say better gameplay, I don't mean because it has the touch screen or whatever, I mean the actual game is good.

I don't see how it's possible to play Super Mario 64 on a GBA. sure it's a half-port, but it shows it's a good game, makes good use of both screens, you don't need to use the stylus (i didn't). And the graphics on it are far better than the GBA can produce.#

I have both a PSP and DS, I play on them both - they both have advantages and disadvantages, just happens the DS has better games for it at the moment, hence why i'm playing on that more than my PSP.

Bruv i get what ur saying, both of u but i cant see myself playing a crap game graphics games no matter how good the gameplay is!

I recon this describes the situation well:
"While the Nintendo DS has a very capable 3D chip, able to render the likes of Super Mario 64, it's no contest that the PSP has more raw power than the DS. Even the launch games (which didn't exactly have a ton of time to be developed) approach the graphical abilities of the PlayStation 2. Comparing a PS2 to the N64 is like night and day, and that's pretty much the same comparison that can be made here. Really, this one is no contest.

When compared to the PSP, however, the Nintendo DS' screen quality falls short. The viewing angles aren't nearly as nice, and the colors and overall clarity just don't compare. It does sport a better refresh rate though, saving it from some of the blurring problems that the PSP suffers from." although the New DS Lite would have sorted out most of these problems!

I also understand that games like Mario 64 do both look good and probably play even nicer! What my main concern is, is the fact that the DS is not focusing on the game quality but more on how u play it which is not always a good solution in my opinion.

So basically, it comes down to this:

    PSP = $250
    DS = $150

Now why do you think theres a difference in price...perhaps it is because of this 'raw power'

Sure if they were the same price the DS would suck, but the point is they're not.

Hey, i pretty much said this at the beginning :p

^ my second reply to the topic.

About your DS-GBA comparison there...are you trying to prove youself wrong?
Even I can tell you they look different, and from playing both games, can tell you it's much different on the DS than the GBA.

lol glad u sorted that out then! Now back to quality of games!

Do u know if games manufacturers for the DS are going to continue to make thousands of variations of tetris or are they going to move on to more 3D games like Mario64 and Final Fantasy 3?

Nah- just trying to say i was making the assumption that DS games were of quality similar to the GBA! But i proved myself wrong, but u got to say there are some crap quality games on the DS.

Stop using Burnout as an example, it's really a bad port. The psp version got 8.5, while the DS version got 3.5 (IGN) so you can't compare those. Same thing for Need for Speed (7.5 and 4).

We clearly just differ in opinion. At the moment I'm having a blast replaying FFVII on the PS2 (PSX broke down). Grafics? Even less than NDS. But more fun than about 98% of all the current-gen and next-gen console games.

So yeah, for me, gameplay is all I need.

Ok got to admit ur right there! It depends on the game though! i have no problem playing Mario or Sonic 1 or most retro games to that matter!
