For the whole system or just the HDD?

When this comes out, if i update my flashed xbox will it brick? Is there a set date for the release? And will it be a forced update?

For the hdd. All updates are forced. If you don't update through LIVE, you'll eventually have to through a new game.

At E3 they actually showed off the new avatars, party system, and primetime. It looks good, however it sounds like primetime costs money to play.

In the interview with the dude from banjo kazooie the last comment he said was "Look foward to seeing it on Live" Does this mean you will be able to download full retail games to your hard drive and play it?

Well, you can do that now with some original Xbox titles. But I doubt MS will sell 360 titles on LIVE for download. Atleast not for awhile.

But you will be able to install your 360 games from the disc on to the hdd and then play from the hdd. You will still need the disc in the drive, for security reasons.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that with the new dashboard and extras, security will really be buttoned down. It'll be interesting to see if loading backups to the hdd leads to a new round of bannings.

    Only time will tell.

I also like how one person can stream a Netflix movie and him and people on his friends list (only 8 total) can all watch it at once.

The only pics I've seen are the shots from E3... and those are easy to find.

i am thinking we will still be ok with our backups, as long as we have them in the drive, i love the faster loading times idea, and i really like the fact we can now all chat with the dashboard up to 8 ppl not just in game lobbys. pretty sweet, they give any word on when all this is happening? also bhetrick, you have any pics? i did a quick search and just saw a glimps of the new dash. i have to run for now so i could search later. but if you have them you should put them up here

So, it looks like we may soon be able to add larger HDDs and load our games to it with modded dashboards, just like the original xbox.

It would be an awesome feature if Microsoft weren't so greedy.

If they open up the spec and let you use any hard drive you can install quite a few games on the 360 but a 7.5GB game and a 20GB HDD won't give you much breathing space.

Throwing in a 250GB HDD or buying a 2.5 to 3.5 inch adapter and plugging in a terabyte HDD would be the way to go IMO.

My games would take up 200GB+

What exactly is the point of this? Waste of HDD space. Load times are like what 1 second quicker? I would understand if you didnt need to have the disc in the tray but you might as well just not install it to the HDD if you are going to have to have the game in the tray.

Everything els looks cool tho. Cant wait for the netflix feature.

How about no drive noise and no wear and tear on the laser. There are countless threads about people with dead lasers. Or how about all the people with GTA4 loading/texture pop up problems?

The disc needs to be in the drive to verify ownership, but that's it. Once it's verified, that's it. No more reading from the disc.

Ok I didn't see this unitl today.

You guys do realize what this means right? This is basically a major hint for the next-gen xbox. With the way things happen to be at this moment: LIVE's huge success, XBOX mutimedia features, MS anti-BD adgenda... all this adds up to mean 1 thing: next gen console from MS will move to all digital content delivery. Meaning, 1. You don't go out to by any games, you DL via LIVE, 2. DRM associated with any digital content delivery basically screws the end user. 3. They make even more money doing disc-less. 4. Again, we get screwed.

Sony, on the other hand, will most likely take on a different path. Their situation as it stand: BD is alive and accepted as next-gen disc media. Sony owns BD. Sony's online system is very weak and is in infancy. Sony will still be using disc based BD for their next gen for sure.

If MS takes this route as predicted, I might have to go Sony for this next one. Certainly not good news.

There are also countless threads about dead 360's with RROD...that doesnt mean anything. There are a percentage of crappy 360's that are faulty ofcourse they are gonna have bad lasers. Im sure good functioning 360's will do fine playing the game without loading from the HDD.

If what you are saying is true to the majority then the 360 must be the biggest POS ever built if it cant function normally playing games of a disc.

And if you dont have the elite or buy an expensive 120 gigg HDD then what only 3 or 4 games at most stored to the HDD....again what is the point?
