hi i have just purchased these parts for a gaming computer for my friend that i am going to build for him. how are these specs for crysis? what fps will i be getting? will it play on high quality? asus p5q-e motherboard intel core 2 duo quad q6600 - plan to overclock to 3.0ghz 8gb ddr2 800mhz ram asus ati radeon hd4870x2 graphics card seagate 1tb hard drive playing it on a insignia 26" tv that i believe the resolution is 1680x900? i no its 1680 something i believe those are all the specs you need. please reply! thankyou
26" TVs are almost always 1366x768 not 1680x1050. If it does do that resolution, it's a nice change. A 4870X2 can play Crysis maxed out like that. Crysis Warhead is much more demanding so it may not run that quite so well on all-enthusiast, but drop one or two boxes down to 'gamer' and you'll be fine. Also, 8GB RAM is nuts, 4 will be ample.
Only if you use it For a start you don't mention the OS you use, only 64-bit Vista can address that much memory.
with the 64-bit, you can use 8gb, but its really excessive. nothing bad will really come from it, but nothing more will either. 4gb is enough, but if you REALLY feel the need to get more, 6gb is also good. just saying that if you want to save a little money, go and get 4gb ram.

It's mainly idle power consumption it saves, but sure, disable it if you like, it's hardly groundbreaking energy consumption anyway.
For reference, owning similar hardware: Crysis, 1920x1200 all 'Very High', no Anti-Aliasing, around 27fps, dips to 21 on occasions. Crysis Warhead 1440x900 all 'Enthusiast' but with 'gamer' shadows, 4xAA, around 21-24fps, dips to 8-10 on occasions.

For most games you don't want it to drop below 50. Crysis is unusual though, and you can get away with as low as 25. At 1366x768 the original Crysis will run flawlessly maxed out. Warhead I'm not sure.
i got that all under control now...but now i am having problems with overclocking..i have changed many different things in the AI tweaker and i can't get it to 3ghz...i have put the fsb to 333..disabled cpu and pcie spread spectrum..put the cpu voltage to 1.3..and tried playing around with the dram stuff but i dont really know how to overclock..please help! thanks!
ok i will give that a try...and im using an xigmatek s1283 cooler..its working great with the q6600 on 2.4..its only running on idle at 19 degrees celsius...so the only thing i need to do is change the nb voltage and it should work??
You can try it, I don't know anyone who's actually got any difference out of changing the northbridge voltage, but who knows, there's always a first time... :S Your main problem is the main CPU voltage, I had to use 1.47V to get my Q6600 properly stable at 3.24Ghz. At the very least try 1.4 on the CPU. You might have a 1.25V chip, which will be a better overclocker than my 1.325V chip, but in either case, you will need 1.35-1.40V to get to the good side of 3Ghz.
