Our GC started to receive the "can't read disc error". Cleaned the laser lens and no effect so time to tweak the lasor. First thing I found was the adjustment pot was a piece of junk. Just touching the pot changed the ohms. Set the ohms at 200 and the laser would no longer light and the disc would not spin. Set the pot to 304 and it started to spin, the light came, read the disc for a few moments and then it would stop. So I tweaked the ohms down a bit down to 280. The lens stopped lighting and the disc would not spin. Setting the ohms back to 304 and the lens still dark and no spin. I'm starting to think the GC is dead.

    Any idea?

I must correct myself. I said still no fan or laser. I meant to say, no spin or laser.

Well this morning our game cube started to work. For some reason (the manual differs on this) but just pushing in the start button and pressing back the lid switch didn't make our GC happy. Once I placed the top on the GC I heard the laser move. I installed the disc but it didn't read it so I set the ohms down some more...that did the trick. It is now reading the disc.

We have a manual that says the laser and disk should come on even if the top is off. Hm? I dodn't get it because all the top lid does is push back on a switch and the start button presses down on a switch. It's working for now and I won't fight it.....give it what it wants!
