My console is about 10 days old and the game is new (bought with cash) I've had a pretty good search on this board to see if there is anyone else who has solved this but I couldn't find it.

When I boot up the 360 with GoW in it I get as far as the title screen (press start button) before a console message comes up telling me that the disk is too dirty to be read and therefore must be cleaned and the console restarted. I have cleaned this new (and scratch free) disk repeatedly to no avail.
My son's mate has left an old 360 (M$ repaired from RROD twice) here when I run the disk in that the game plays sweet as a nut. I rang the kid who says he downloaded something once which prevented him from getting that error.

Now he is very hazy on details and although he explained how he loaded 'fix' offa CD but I dunno if'n he remembers correctly. He doesn't remember where he got the fix.

Neither console has been chipped or had the drive flashed.
My console being a recent 'pro' (20gig HD) has a BenQ dvd player his has has a 20 gig HD and a Samsung DVD.

I wondered if'n some of the old hands in here know whether this problem is fixable (I have exchanged the GoW disk at the shop but that didn't work) and if it is whether this download fix sounds about right and if so where I would get one.
I haven't flashed the drive because the console is new and I want to be sure it doesn't have a mob of hardware faults b4 I break the seal on it.
If I did flash the BenQ firmware is there any chance that would fix the problem.
I appreciate any help consoles are not my thing - my son has more sony and nintendo consoles than you can shake a stick at and they have been pretty much trouble free apart from the occasional game which resists being backed up - I have been happy PC gaming for a long time but the last 12 months has not been great for PC games, so in desperation at the lack of PC games I bought this 360. I figured it's only the price of a decent graphics card.

Heh - that was before I discovered that there was no way to tap the audio outta the hdmi lead so I had to have either hi def graphics and lo def audio (tiny speakers on my monitor) or surround sound and VGA graphics boo hiss).

It looks like all I've bought is another money hole to tip cash into.
That's prolly a bit harsh - anyhow if anyone does know a fix for this apparently common GoW disk read problem I would appreciate a heads up.

well you could just go and download everything for that game, off of xbox live market place, however i would think it would be in the game update. so download everything for the game in xbl marketplace and try that, also try a different game, if that dosnt work, return your console.
