I have a old Geforce Fx 5500 I was wondering how much better the ATI (Sapphire) 9600XT 256 MB DDR/8X-AGP/TV-OUT/DVI is? I just order the 9600XT it was only 90 some what dollars. just wondering if u have any opions on it.
The 9600 will be better than the FX, you just need to get the correct drivers. I am not sure if you paid too much for it though! Your new card will be struggling to play the newer games. It is an old card, plain & simple, a better upgrade would have been a 6800LE, or a 6600GT. A bit more money, but WELL worth it. Pulsar PS, What's with Thoery, I thought your nick was Theory? Typo?
Yea typo when i made the name.. The reason i upgraded was cause the old Graphics card was giving me horrible frame rate and just being a pain in my ass. I was gonna go to a newer card but i firgured i would wait since i wanted to get my 250 gig hard drive this time.. But my next bid purchase is gonna be a nicer card.. the other card was only 128 also. and another gig of ram wouldnt hurt my system ethier.
Good quality RAM is essential to keep your PC running sweet, but the main difference in gaming performance is obviously in your card. I would save & get a decent one next time, you won't regret it. What are your specs BTW?
3.4 presscot Overclocked at 3.7 1 gig ram duel channel . I got some high quitly Crosair when i bought my ram.. havent messed with the timmings yet tho.
I just picked up this ATI (Sapphire) 9600XT 256 MB DDR - it's old-generation now, but keep in mind that means 2004.5 model. The 9600XT was an update of the 9600 line, and the XT with 256MB is still a good board for the $$ Mine plays games real nice, 1024x768 in Doom3 and HalfLife2. You can't beat the price of this board :^) A 6600GT is double the money and 6800's are triple... This is a great board, my next big-$$ vidcard will be PCI-eXpress but I'm not ready to give up my old Barton CPU yet. These 9600XT's were at least $200 bucks only a year ago ;^) L8R
