I have a CD writer and have Easy CD Creator 4.05 installed but I am unable to get past the "No supported CD-R/CD-RW drive!" error. I have asked for help in several places, and I have reached the point where I can run "aspichk.exe" and it returns "ASPI is properly installed and is fully operational. One host adapter has been detected." so I know I fixed something that was wrong, but still the program does not recognize my drive. This drive DOES work perfectly well as a read-only drive, and I have gotten it to work as a writing drive using the exact same software and hardware before, without needing to input any brand-specific information, as I don't recall the brand. The only difference is that I have switched operating systems from Win98 to Win95 [sic]. So these two questions seem specific to where my help must be needed: Is there any point in which I need to have some file/software/input-during-installation specific to my brand/manufacturer of drive? I don't recall needing anything like that before, and I am not prompted to give the brand when installing the software. Is there any reason why it would not be recognized in Win95 while it will in Win98? I cannot see where the operating system would have anything specific to my CD-R drive brand, but I have yet to eliminate the OS switch from the cause of my problems. Please! Can ANYONE help? All I want is to be able to write onto CDs! I would greatly appreciate any help!
what make is your drive? have you tried to update easycd creator software, a common problem is when you get a new drive, somtimes the software will not see it until you update the software or update the drives firmware i had this problem with my dvd writer, had to updated my programs for them to see it. personally i use a ntfs file system, never really used windows 95 and 98, have you tried ME? failing that try windows 2000 or xp, i use xp pro. Well, one of my main concerns is that I have forgotten the make of the drive, and I wanted to know if this was important (some items of hardware require brand-specific files or drivers, some do not) This information (about "firmware") seems like it could be helpful; could you explain this a little further? And would that update information have been on the floppy that ECDC prompts for during installation? I don't seem to have any floppy like that either, and I can't recall being prompted to provide any beand-specific information during the previous installation in February 2001. Please keep in mind that I was able to immediately get the writer to operate properly during the initial installation at that time without any problems, the only difference since being the OS switch back from Win98 to Win95. I don't have any intentions of changing my OS, but I don't see where I would need to do so just to get a drive to be recognized. Since I posted that message, I found and installed a program called "Burnquick" that WAS actually finally able to write to a CD, so there is another thing (I'm not sure what, though) that I can eliminate from my list of possible problems. So my burner IS actually capable of writing, but ECDC still does not recognize that I have any supported CD-R/CD-RW drive. Any suggestions for my next step? Thank you so far...
i would use at least windows 98 or me for a cd-rw, it just a better operating system windows xp has cd writing out of the box, no more software needed, this is done by using roxio, the people who make easy cd creator, not a bad effort the firmware is where you donwload the latest drive information from, such as toshiba, the program is usally on floppy, you flash the drive it self, but you say it worked before hand tho, so i dont think it is anything to do with the firmware of the drive interesting, do you or your mates have another computer that you could test the drive on?, if so try it, but on a different o/s if you have a spare hard drive nocking about, stick that in yours and put 98/me/2k or xp on it, then try if the drive worked before you put 95 on, i would think the problem is a software fault rather than hardware, such as the o/s by the way, the maker of the drive is stamped on the drive, so you will need to take it out to have a look let me know how i get on
If I understand this correctly, this means that it is absolutely essential that I know the brand of my drive in order to get it to work correctly, and CD-R/CR-RW drives when purchased new must come with software specific to the brand in order to get it to work properly? If this is so, then it should mean that I need to crack open the case, look at the brand, and retrieve the software that is specific to this brand, correct? (Also, the operating system should not be important unless Windows 95 was designed without CD writing in mind. I cannot see that that would be correct, as I am sure that CD writing software has been used under Windows 95)
i would look at the maker of the drive, post it here with the model and i will do some reasearch for you
I had exactly the same problem with easy CD creator 4.05. I upgraded to version 5.3.2 and it fixed the problem automatically.
Is it possible to upgrade directly from 4.05 to 5.3.2? I thought that would only work for those who have at least 5.0 alreadt installed.
Windows 95 does not know the difference between a CD-ROM drive and a CD-R/RW drive unless you install the updated manufacturer supplied driver for Windows 95. I still recommend upgrading to a newer O/S, but if you insist on using Windows 95, get the drivers made specifically for your CD-RW drive.
I have found my drive brand: LITEON 8401. I downloaded the Firmware upgrade for that model, and I am told that I already have the latest firmware installed. I'm a little lost now. If the brand helps, please let me know how.
Sorry, that is LITEON 0841 The title on the box is: LITEON 8x4x32x CD-Rewriter with ATAPI Interface The drive was manufactured September 2000. I have downloaded the firmware update, and I am told that the latest version of the firmware is already installed, and the update program aborts on that note. If anyone has used "Burnquick", please let me know any information about this, as it was actually able to get my drive to write, but it doesn't seem to work very well. (so this drive HAS worked under Win95 so far, just not very well) I appreciate all help, but if you know with certainty that that this particular drive cannot operate under Win95, suggesting a drive that DOES work in Win95 rather than suggesting an OS upgrade would be much more helpful. your problems seem to be O/S related, so therefore upgrading would be a quick and easy solution. Alternatively, you could get all the updates for Windows 95 to possibly give it a chance to work with newer hardware. Good luck getting windows update to work, I hear that they are no longer supporting windows 95! Do yourself a favor and upgrade your O/S!
I don't believe that it would be possible for me to upgrade to anything greater than Win98 with this system with a 166mhz processor, 1.6 GB hard drive, and 32 MB RAM. And I also have heard that later Windows versions past 98 will not even run DOS applications at all (one of the reasons I went back to 95 from 98), and, the expense of the upgrade would be prohibitive. So, an upgrade to a later OS would (likely) fix my CD writing problem, but would cause problems with everything else, not excluding my finances. So a switch to a CD-R drive that is readily operational in Win95 would be much less problematic than an entire operating upgrade to simply compensate for a single incorrectly operating peripheral. Is it really realistic that my drive cannot be made to work AT ALL in Windows 95? Surely people burned CDs on Windows 95 before, and would a drive manufactured in September 2000 be made to be completely useless in Windows 95? There must be something I am missing here, and I cannot believe that it would be something intrinsic to the operating system. Sure, my operating system, as well as my computer, are old, but the drive is over 2 years old as well. All I want to do is to be able to write to CDs using this drive (again).
are you at least running win95 version C ?? go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and see if you can do any kind of updates.. if your system is intel, see if you can get updated chipset drivers from http://www.intel.com .. etc, etc, etc.. FYI, win98 and win95 are pretty much the same, so any app that works in 95 should work in 98 as well. anyhow, good luck trying to get it to work. If you happen to be in the Miami area, I will extend an offer for you to bring the pc by and I will make it work, but I can't just start guessing at what would make it work, I would have to troubleshoot and that means having the physical pc in front of me.
