Getting Chimp to work with telnet on V1.6 Xbox

I'm in the process of upgrading my HD in my softmodded v1.6 Xbox but want to stray away from xboxhdm. I know of the problems of running chimp on a 1.6 (IE: green screen) and how to access the menu via telnet.

In the manual, it states to telnet with ip address 192.168.0.3, problem is that my buffalo router has a gateway address of 192.168.11.1 and all addresses are assigned through DHCP. I can telnet into the xbox with an ip of 192.168.11.X while unleashx is running but as soon as I run chimp, I get nothing but "Could not open connection to the host on port 23: Connection Failed". The port is set to 23 on the xbox and I've tried telnetting 192.168.0.3, 192.168.11.3 and an arrangement of other addresses but I get no response with a ping or telnet.

I've tried port forwarding and all that jazz, but still get nothing. There could be a possibility I did the port forwarding thing wrong.
