Im still using Nero 6.3.1.6 and havent changed because I havent had a problem with it. However I have been getting so many coasters lately. When i try and do a copy dvd disc id either have read problems with the status bar just stoping anytime then id have to stop and start again or id get burn failure. However there isnt anything wrong with the disc's, there not sctrahced and in fact there only a few days old. And ive been using these disc for ages and without any problems. Ive tried reading it using DVD Decrypter and it worked perfectly not one read error. Does anyone know what the problem is and how I could fix it? BTW I dont want to upgrade to Nero 7 because I heard that it skips a lot when making audio CD's plus ive also heard it bloated with a lot of crap! Thanks guys.
@sick_unit To help sort this out post one of your failure logs from Nero. They can be found here - program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt. Make sure you edit out your serial # - they begin w/ 1A or 1C. As for upgrading - either 6 or 7 - each pc is different - everyone has different programs, diffferent spec etc. so no version can be bug free for everyone. What works well for one may not be the case for someone else. Nero does list a version history w/ their updates which will show you what bugs they fixed and the 'enhancements'. Decrypter imo is a much better ripper than Nero - make sure you are not burning on the fly. Does it in real time so any little glitch and bang fails.
I just got another coaster when burning a DVD. It was writing and it just stopped at 27%. All up I have had 7 coasters in the past two days. I think ill upgrade to a newer Nero 6 or ill find a different product all together.
As binkie7 has requested, if you post your last Nero log we can look for your problem, we need that to give us ALL the info we need to help you.
It creating the image successfully so there isnt much point posted that part of the log but here is the burning part. As you can see at the end I aborted it because it wasnt writing anything for 5-10 mintues. ===== Disc-Copy over image - 2nd step : Burn the image ... 11:53:17 AM #1 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 118 Reader running 11:53:17 AM #2 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 124 Writer PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 running 11:53:17 AM #3 IMAGEGEN -10 File ImageGen.cpp, Line 366 Image was written as DAO. What's the brand name/format/and speed rate of your blank media? The MID code would be handy. You can use neroinfotool to find that code. Sounds like you are copying one of your backups on the fly for another copy, correct me if I am wrong. Are you trying to copy a backup disc,or original dvd? If I am interpreting this question right, you are able to re-rip a backup copy ok using dvd decrypter. But you are coastering out discs when you are using nero's copy disc program. On the fly is riskier. Media quality/reader quality/and burner quality all come into play. All those little errors on your first backup copy can also come into play. Dvd decrypter is a more aggressive ripper. I can get through those little errors better. Now when you copy on the fly, those little errors can coaster out the blank. All those little read errors can be attributed to: Media quality Too fast of burn speed Too slow of burn speed burner/dvd-rom quality Burning too close to the outer edge Multi-tasking Heavily fragged hd Paper/sticker labels Please explain in more detail of your backup process. You said some were ok,and not now. Edit: You sqeezed that burnlog in before I posted. Some members have been reporting problems with the Ritek-G05 media. Did you change anything about your media like: Different spindle or package? You may have run into a bad batch?
The full log is required so we can see the version of your pioneer DVD109 firmware you are using, it also contains other relevant information. If you dont feel like posting it then I can offer NO further assistance.
Ive got a Pioneer 109, firmware 1.58 using Ritek G05's. your burner does not recognise the Ritek media you are using. This doesnt appear to be the WHOLE log as requested but I woud suggest, without seeing the FULL log to go here and update Pioneer DVR 109 firmware http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2017 latest 8.57 Also check to see if your DMA is on http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
@ gwendolin This is the entire log from the Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt as binkie7 said earlier. Firmware 8.57 is buffalo firware and I dont want that. DMA is already set on.
OK your firmware is current, you are using good media and your DMA is enabled. There is not much more that I can help you with.
Hi Gwen, binkie, Let me see if i can help here now that we have a full log. That is related to these: and it doesnt like the media. Now maybe a firmware update can help. This log is part of another nero app log. If you could post the history log found here for vers 6, it will list more things, like memory useage, and firmware version, drivers, etc. I didnt see it in this log. [bold]Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt [/bold] These things record all burns, and we only need the last one. The burns are seperated by something like this But from what i can see from this log, media is giving you an issue. The firmware for that pioneer could be a number of them, and we would need to see the current version to get the right one, hence the history log request. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2017 Try to find the history log, and post it. Not all of it, just the last burn in that log. ***Edit*** Dang Gwen, you are fast. By the time i had finished looking, you had a couple replies back.. Here is an example of a history log, not my own, but copied from another post. This is what a whole log should look like, and is the best kind to work with. It gives us much more info to work with. [bold]THIS IS AN EXAMPLE ONLY!! DONT TRY TO FIX THIS ONE...[/bold] unless you find the post i got it from **************************************************************** WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.71 (0002), size=45056 bytes, created 17/07/2002 09:20:56 ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 26/10/2004 16:35:32 Nero Version: 6.6.0.13 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 13c (Nero Express) Recorder: <PHILIPS DVDR16LS> Version: P1.9 - HA 0 TA 1 - 6.6.0.13 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 0 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <Generic DVD-ROM >Version: 1.0 - HA 3 TA 0 - 6.6.0.13 Adapter driver: <d347prt> HA 3 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : IC35L180AVV207-1 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : PHILIPS DVDR16LS atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : Generic DVD-ROM 1.0 d347prt Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === PHILIPS DVDR16LS F: CDRom0 Generic DVD-ROM I: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 1023MB (1048048kB) Free physical memory: 548MB (561612kB) Memory in use : 46 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 13.2.2006 ISO compilation 02:24:31 #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6194 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 02:24:31 #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 02:24:31 #3 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer PHILIPS DVDR16LS running 02:24:31 #4 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3293 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 02:24:31 #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3167 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 02:24:31 #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 260 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 2291839 (509:17.64, 4476MB) 02:24:31 #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 272 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 02:24:31 #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2339 Recorder: PHILIPS DVDR16LS, Media type: DVD+R 02:24:31 #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 438 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 02:24:31 #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 830 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 2291840 (2291840) = #2291840/509:17.65 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 2291840 blocks [PHILIPS DVDR16LS] -------------------------------------------------------------- 02:24:31 #11 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1043 Prepare recorder [PHILIPS DVDR16LS] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; That looks like the latest fw update for the pioneer 109: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2017 You changed spindles or packages? You may have missed my first post, just before your first burn log post. I'm still confused at what you are trying to backup and how. You said dvd decrypter has no issues with ripping it.
@sick_unit Now thats better. See there is important info in these logs, and we dont have much to go by when we get a partial log. No problems. Now let me see what the lastest log part shows. See, now we know what your firmware is on your system, and it is current. Wasnt that easy.. Next, That one means the version of nero you have does not see your burner, and is assigning generic properties to it. Not good. To fix this, you have to update. Now the last non-buggy nero 6x was 6.6.0.18 and it should be here: http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe Its still version 6, and it might be enough of an update to detect your drive. That is really excellent memory management, but you need 512mb minimum to do a DVD rip. Now if anybody can do it with half of that, it looks like you will be the one. But an upgrade to 512 is the minimum suggested, and you really see a difference when you go to 1GB. Just an idea in case updating nero and media still fails for you. You also didnt put in the very last part of the log this time. Is this hide and seek? LOL Anyways, put the last part in that lists the drivers. It takes a fragmented mind like mine to take a log part of the post at a time, like this, but im ready ***edit*** Hi saugmon @sick_unit, Good Media to try should be Verbatims, or Taiyo Yuden found in Sony, Maxell, Fuji, if Made in Japan is on the package. I use only Verbs or Tys for my copies, and only suggest those when ppl are having burn problems, and firmware is up2date, but nero says media is a problem.
lol MaxBurn. Yeah I know that 256mb isnt enough but its a pc2100 ram and there fairly old and are more expensive than DDR2. Im upgrading my PC in the next few months so theres no point upgrading ram before that time. And the final part of this log.......... Existing drivers: File 'Drivers\atapi.sys': Ver=5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158), size=95360 bytes, created 3/08/2004 10:59:44 PM (Adapter driver for rec) Registry Keys: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AllocateCDROMs : 0 (Security Option)
@sick_unit Always good to have a newer system. Yeah, old memory gets more expensive than new stuff sometimes. Try the Nero update and see if it helps. It was fairly stable. I just updated my Nero 7 today and its working fine. I held off for a couple of updates as many ppl were having major bugs with it. This one seems to be fine for me so far. Your last part of the log didnt show any major conficts that sometimes hide there. Try different media, maybe even a RW as you wouldnt be getting coasters, and it could be used as a test. Its always good to have a few of those DVD+RWs lying around. Once it burns those fine, you should be able to burn a Verb or Ty, and anything else depends on how your systems likes the media.
Try a burn with the update, and post the burn log if it fails. That will show us if .18 still doesnt see your drive. It probably will do fine, but i do remember seeing one .18 log that didnt see a newer burner.
