Ok my surround sound system has a dvd player built in and when i put a movie in that has dolby digital and it plays but it has to a/v outs in the back of the reciever but no coaxial or optical and i want to get my xbox 360 dolby digital kus it supports it but how would i hook it up....through A/V?? And it has Dolby digital decoder so does that mean when it hokks up through av it will tell if it is dolby digital or not...any help im new at home theater soo thanks
ill try to help you out but first let me get this straigh.......you have a htb system and it has a dvd player built into the reciever and you have a 360 you would like to hook it up using an optical cable so you can get dolby digital from your 360.....but from what i understand your home theater system doesnt have an optical input if im correct and understad everything it wouldnt be possible becuse regular rca cables cant carry dolby digital.........if your system does have a optical input then you would still need to buy the hd cables for your 360 so you could run an optical cable from it to your system.....btw please reply back and clarify that i understand your question correctly then i may be able to help you some more but as of now im not sure i understand everything correctly, sorry
If your player has no optical or coaxial, it won't do Dolby Digital, like Spenman91 said. You will have to buy another receiver. Not really worth having DD. DD as in Dolby Digital, not breasts. Your post is a little confusing.
