As the title says, i don't care about the file sizes it's just that i want two different xvids to have the same specification so i can join them. I have used Autogk and avi.net but can't find where i can adjust all the settings so that it can be used for each file.(I hope i'm not being dense about this...)
    Thanks in advance

I use and recommend Power Video Converter and Advanced X Video Converter. Unfortunately, they are not free.

Thanks for the reply. I used powerconverter to join the .avi's but the sound is out of sync, both in the 1st part and 2nd part of the joined file. I also think that the sound quality is slightly worse after conversion (not too noticable in most cases but these are music xvids :( )
For what purpose do you use Advanced X Video Converter? Is it not the same as Power?

    Edit

After i typed this i realised the error message from virtualdub about the xvids being vbr resulting in a certain skew - i think this is happening with powerconverter too...
