.gif animated video!!

    is there a free program out there that will convert a video file to .gif format? for example, i want to use for for a signature in a different forum. i have the video i want i just need it in a .gif. can anyone help me out?

    mplayer. It can convert pretty much any video format to an animated gif.

    All that i see from mplayer is that it's a video player. is there an option on there to convert?

    Well generally speaking mencoder is used for converting. mplayer has different video output modes though, one of which is gif89a.

    Load it into VirtualDub
    Save as image sequence
    Use FastStone Photo Resizer to batch convert each frame to GIF (and you'll probably want to resize the frames too)
    Whack the GIFs into an animator, such as Alchemy GIF Construction Set Professional

    That would only work if the video is an avi or mpeg1. Plenty of gif converters that will accept avi's as input directly.
