I am going to buy a 360 this Sunday. I am planning on getting the new Elite in a white box so I can get a jasper system. Is there a chance I could get a system that cannot be flashed? Or is it safe to buy it now?

I'd probably wait until the super elite comes out.

I do not want to spend $100 more for the extra memory and controller. I doubt I will fill up 120GB and I do not really think the new design is worth the extra money. What is all the memory really needed for, besides stuff bought with MS Points?

Thanks for your suggestion though. Now to get back on topic. Do you know if the new Elites are flashable?

From what I've read on another forum, not all drives are flashable. Some of the new (made in august 09) lite-on's are not flashing. They won't dump the keys. They appear to be identical to current lite-on's in every way. I haven't got one yet, but it is stumping all the pro's. If this is the trend for MS to send repaired and new Boxes with this drive, then this may be one that won't be hacked for a while.

sorry if I step on any toes with this (link) but here is what I've read.

Listen to eebeejay also. He re-iterates what wabashman has said: ahem.... "every console is flashable".

Not trying to start a fight, just passing on some info that I ran across. I haven't gotten any of the drives made after July 09, but here is another thread that suggests there is something different in the drive or firmware.

after all that is what these forums are for is exchanging ideas.

That info is old, the new liteon's (83850C) have been flashable for some time now. There was a problem with the dvd key being encrypted but free key and open key solved that.

Thanks for your replies. I just bought it today. It was the new holiday bundle with Lego Batman and Pure. I checked on the back of my console and the date on it is 8/11/09. I am going to flash it tomorrow, but emtimwv's link kind of worries me since I have a system made in August.

Actually, looks like there is a different revision of the new 83850C. I just read this in the firmware channel 10 minutes ago:

[22:05] <+c4eva> the new 838 liteon will be dumped and examined in the next several days! stay tuned!
[22:05] <pukey> DxS that is hard
    [22:05] <pukey> c4!!!!!!!!!!!!
    [22:05] <pukey> w00000000000000000t
    [22:05] <pukey> thanks C4
    [22:05] <DxS> c4eva, 838 has been done for a while hasnt it?
[22:05] <|3rt> love how c4 just shoots in comments :p
    [22:06] <DxS> or are there 2 models of 838
    [22:06] <|3rt> there are 2 rev's
    [22:06] <DxS> ah
    [22:06] <DxS> interesting
    [22:06] <|3rt> ya
    [22:06] <+c4eva> seems so
[22:06] <DxS> whats different about the new one?
[22:06] <DxS> and when did the 2nd rev start showing up?
[22:06] <|3rt> its a bumhole that doesnt open
[22:06] <DxS> cuz i bought an elite manuf july 09 and it modded just ifne
[22:06] * zerowarz is now known as ZeroWarz
    [22:06] <+c4eva> no key output!

So looks like the firmware team has a new challenge. I'm sure the drive is flashable, just need to get the key dumped.

Edit- and just to shake things up a bit, C4EVA has started working on cracking the PS3. But is busy right now with the second revision of the 83850C.

I found this on the only site I buy modchips and send my console for repair and mods. Not sure if I am allowed to post the name of it so I will just post what he said.

There is a new version o fthe DG-16D2S 83850C manufactured after Agu 2009 that can not currently be dumped

I was hoping that it would be only after August, not including August. I guess I will just have to wait for C4EVA to fix this.

Sorry for stepping on any toes here, I just read about the new drives and then read here DHua was looking to get a new system and thought I would pass on the info I found. If I was buying something this expensive, I would want to know any facts or rumors there is.
