i just want to give everyone a big heads up on a good burner for GC stuff, i used to use a sony dru-510a and with ritek discs i would get a good burn 1 out of 5, i just went and purchased a pioneer dvr-710 from best buy today and without a hitch i burned 3 games with no dre's, so just to let anyone know, best buy carries it for 49 bucks which isn't very bad. lates

i heard pioneer is good for burning GC games. just make sure u use the latest firmware.

I have benq burner...3 disc failed on me ...and i just found one Disc Read Error in-game....

I think it's because i burned 4x on fullsize DVD-R ritek G05 ...if i slow it down, it should be alright...learned my lesson ><..

I've been using a Sony DRU-700A burner, and DRE is mainly caused by the way you rip your games.I been ripping my GC backups with NGCDEV Ripper 2.0a and burning with Nero 6 SE at 4X also.I haven't experience a DRE using this method.I will say this though DRE is not only caused by making a bad rip,but is also caused by the actual laser.I think some GameCube systems have a picky drive just like the Xbox.I would say to most users pay close attention to what discs work for you, cause some reported working may not work for your GameCube.I didn't do any pot adjustment to my GameCube, and still am able to read all the cheap discs that are mentioned not working without a pot adjustment.I would like to hear how you are all ripping your discs, what methods do you use to rip your backups. The way you make your backup is really important if you ask me.

I have no problems with my setup, just saying I would like to help out others as best as I can.I also noticed if you put your created backup images in the program GC Tool 1.20 made by paradox it also helps determine if you have a good rip or not.Things to look for when opening up your created images in GC Tool 1.20:

    ISO Details
    Name:
    Serial:
    Country:
    Maker Code:
    Date:
    TOC-Size:

If you see the Icon image doesn't display right meaning an unvisible image of the actual game, this tells me it is a bad rip.If any of the information is not displayed besides comments then this could mean a bad rip.I try this out everytime I rip a game, and if the information doesn't add up then most likely it is a bad rip.

the sony i was using was a dre-510, it was a little old and the firmware would only allow 1x burning on mini ritek discs, not to kncok the mor anything, but i've had nothing but trouble from sony products, and i mean everything, tvs, car stereos, home stereos, and even my playstations, so i was super glad when this pioneer burner gave me no probs, that was the only reason i recommended it, like i said if you have no probs from a sony drive i give you kudos!!!!!

All I'm saying is the burner you use is just a small factor when burning GC games.I never used a Sony Dru-510 burner, but I do believe they have a firmware upgrade for it.I mean Sony is up to Dru-810 dvd drives now,so a firmware upgrade would have to be used to get better burns for you(disc compatibility, better burn speed/results etc... with a firmware upgrade).I don't fault Sony for the drive you used either, cause everything electrical gets outdated.I do agree with you on the playstation systems. The lasers installed on the systems are cheap, but alot of game systems are cheap if you ask me.Sony appliances are not bad just depends on what you are looking for.If you are talking about Televisions it depends on what you buy like I mentioned. The car stereos and home stereos Sony doesn't even compare, cause Sony doesn't even come close to what is on the market for stereo equipment.I could name a bunch of brands for stereo equipment that make Sony look like a joke.I'm trying to say Sony isn't top of the line with everything in electrical appliances, but if you ask me there isn't a brand you can trust for everything.

yea i'm not trying to knock sony at all, it's just been a bad trip for me with these guys, and i do wholeheartdly agree that there is no one brand that you can trust. hopefully sometime in the future we can go back to cartridge based systems and old school tech.....haahahahha
