Can anyone recommend some good case fans? I just got two from best buy that are antec 80 mm and it dont even feel like their pushing air. I need extra circulation cause I got a new high definition montio and my vid card is actually heating up and crashing trying to push the monitor at 1600 x 1200 85 htz on games. SO is there any that push good?:>

does the videocard have a fan on it? how about a pci slot blower fan that can sit right beside the videocard to cool it down?

Yes its a 6800 bfg gt. I tried a slot blower and didnt make a bit of difference. The only thing is helping is leaving the side cover off and the weird thing is I thought nvidia cards have a automatic fan that suppose to kick on higher with the heat...this one stays at 53% till it overheats and shut down, but I can crank it up with rivatuner.

Oh and sorry bout the othe rpost ddp, but I figured someone would want that and I really didnt want nothing out of it other than shipping costs.:>

no problem about the other tho remember next time. check nvidia site or card maker to see in faq section if anything about the fan. what is the temp of your cpu when the crash happens?

My cpu is fine at bout 43c but my gpu is hitting I think 90 celsius and then the comp reboots while playing games. This all started when I got the nice new high defintion monitor and Im cranking settings out. I can litterally sit here and here the copper heat sink creaking as its cooling down. Thats why I need good case fans, :>

I got two in front pushin in and two in rear including psu pulling out. Plus cpu, northbridge, and gpu fan. I also have a side fan sucking out kinda covering the cpu fan. So a constant flow from front to back, but like I said if I put my hand over over them it dont even feel like its blowing air.

goto the antec site & look up the specs on the fans as they maybe slower than your other ones but could possibly move more air than your other ones.

Well mine must be junk. They rated for 2600 rpm, but according to my mobo they are running at 1,200 rpm.

So back to my original question ddp, what are good fans that actually move air...not just spin?:>

    Hi Ozzy,
Typically this would blow into the case, not out.
In at front & side; out from rear and top.
I use Vantec fans almost exclusively (especially 120mm Stealth model).
They come in 3 strengths in all sizes:
    Stealth is slow/quiet
Thermoflow is medium/quiet and will speed up with heat
Tornado is FAST - moves a lot of air. Larger sizes will use almost a full amp (12W) of power... 92mm and 120mm should connect via powersupply (molex) only.
Ensure all proprietary fan speed control software (ie. my ABit FanEQ) is disabled, and also properly disabled in BIOS setup if applicable.
You need a Killa fan exhausting at the rear.
Make sure any side fan is blowing IN.
Run the BFG stock (it's already OC'd :^)
Move any PCI away - keep lots of open space around the BFG.
Get a can of air, and make sure BFG fan & cooler are always seriously clean.
You should then be good - but (last resort) consider reducing refresh to the 'old' VESA standard = 75Hz.
Pretty good monitor if it does 85Hz, sounds sweet ;^)

Thanks ogs.......Im gonna give the vantec a whirl. I could run lower at 75 hz, but according to the spec page it says max/recommended 85 hz....check it out

Would ya believe I found this at a flea market for a hundred american and its only like 5 yrs old...manufactered in oct 99.....ya cant beat it.

Btw...this overheating issue seems to only happen with need for speed most wanted, but not doom 3...weird. I got both running at 1600 x 1200 at 85 hz on high detail. Weird aint it?

But I do think imk gonna get rid of these antec crap fans and check those tornados out...I dont care bout noise as long as my vid card aint baking. Oh and cool and quiet is diasbled and these fans are plugged straight into a 4 pin on the psu...its just hooked to the mobo for monitoring :>

Btw...hey ogs these the good ones that move a lot of air right??

i think theres something about need for speed most wanted because my pc crashes and restarts when i play it for a while but games like half life 2 doom 3 etc dont cause this. i havent been monitoring my gpu temps though

Then its probaly heat sypher. Run a race and then hit the windows key to check out the temps on the desktop. I betcha experiencing the same thing. This particular game seems to heat things up. Before I was running a 17 ich supermatch crt thats 10 yrs old and it would crash after 4 races instead of two with the high def due to heat. Just got to get more circulation like I do. I got the house fan blowing on the card till the tornados come and I order tham and no more crashes..lol! Nice and chilly though in the middle of winter.:>

    its definately a heat issue

i attatched a temp monitor to my gpu and then ran nfsmw. it went up 40 degrees in a matter of seconds and i got the blue screen again.

other games dont cause this problem though which is wierd bcuz i run other more graphically intense games like half life 2 games at semi decent spec (i cant get good spec out of my crappy card) and while the temp does increase its never so much or so quick as nfsmw.

maybe its just all that NOS fryin my card lol.

maybe ill try strapping my mini fridge onto it to keep it cool lol

Lol yeah time to get out the nitrogen to keep it cool. Maybe ya right it is the nos.

I personally hope they come out with a update for the game. I had one after another prob with the game. It wouldnt install till I set it for windows 2000 compatibility mode. Now the heat issue which has been fixed thanks to alls advice. They really need a update quick for the game.:>
