whats a good motherboard that is under $200 CAD that supports SLI (not crossfire) and also allows for efficient, easy, and very reliable overclocking of the Q6600?
i personally have a 780i evga motherboard. with a q6600 quad core. i have managed to overclock it to 3.2 on air. its gone to 40-45 degrees c. highest was 47. 249.99 at tigerdirect. i recommend it. in my opinion.
Haha, that's what they always say. My line is that usually it never happens, by the time people want to use SLI, it would be more effective simply to upgrade to a newer single card. It saves you the hassle of worrying about the games that do and don't work, and saves you the problems of having to spend a fortune on a potentially very mediocre SLI motherboard.
so best just to go with a decent overclocking motherboard and get a good videocard and upgrade it when needed? also, what else would potentially use a pci-e slot that i havnt thought of yet?
Yes, that's exactly the idea. RAID controller cards, high end networking cards really. Nothing the average end user requires, but the option's open. PCIe 1x is used more than 16x for non-graphics stuff.
