i've frequented this forum for some time and for some reason, it may just be me, but there apears to be a lot of people just saying "ZOMG IF IT ISN'T CORSAIR IT WILL RAPE YOUR MOTHER AND GIVE YOU CANCER". i'd like to settle this once and for all and make a somewhat definitive list of good reliable psu's that newcomers can look at for a quick reference. now im not saying that im a psu expert which is why i implore everyone to add to this list. thermatalke antec OCZ pc power and cooling xclio super flower corporation (SFC) cooler master corsair enermax rosewill FSP coolmax seasonic silverstone once again i am in no way an athority on the subject just a member that doesn't want people to spend more money because of fanboys
Brands don't get popular around here for no reason. Hands down Corsair currently share the top PSU title with PC Power & Cooling, and since Corsairs are quieter, they usually get the top marks. Why recommend a product that isn't as good? Additionally a lot of their units are well priced, so your comment that people have to spend more money because of fanboyism is laughable. The All caps quote shows your immaturity with regard to this post, but for the record: Thermaltake - yes, but not all, Primarily the TR2 and Toughpower series Antec - Yes, but some are better than others OCZ - StealthXStream good, GameXStream not quite so good - prone to high ripple PC P&C - Absolutely, though some units can be noisy XCLio - Absolutely not. Poor quality units Super Flower - don't make me laugh Coolermaster - Mediocre, noisy units. Could do worse, could do much better. Corsair - I think that one's obvious Enermax - Some good, some not so good. You'd be surprised how many Galaxies go wrong Rosewill - Please. I may as well build one myself. FSP - Same as OCZ, since they're the same units. Alright, but nothing special. Coolmax - Deathtraps Seasonic - Very good, quiet, high quality units. Another recommended brand, apart from the M12s with the rear 60mm fan. Silverstone - Powerful units, can sometimes be on the expensive side. I've seen and used plenty of PSU brands, I know what's good and what's not, so when I recommend almost solely Corsair it speaks volumes. i'm not saying that corsair isn't a good brand i'm just saying that in my experience they are noticeably more expensive than other psu's in the same watt range. as far as many of those brands i looked on the top 100 highest rated psu's on newegg for reference because, once again, i am no athority on the subject however i'd like to counter some of the statements you have made on those brands OCZ- my bad Xclio- although some may be hit and miss http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817189014 has an 85% 5 egg rating and no 1 eggs so i dont see the reason for that statement and it has also gotten more in depth reviews on other sites that say its high quality but i could be wrong Super Flower- the people that i know that have super flower can't stop raving about it and crying about the fact that newegg and tiger direct dont sell them Cooler master- my bad enermax- once again i saw it a ton on the top 100 of newegg so i figured it was good rosewill- see enermax coolmax- see rosewill and thank you very much for contributing
The Corsair units are cheap if you look in the right place - they're far more expensive on newegg because they're so popular - go to http://www.buy.com and search for them there. Xclio units are rebadged various units. Some are CWTs and therefore good, others are any old heaps of junk, so for this reason, err on the safe side and don't use them. I had a SuperFlower case which was good, but dirt cheap, and the build quality showed. Not even NZXT who make good cases make good PSUs, what chance does a company that can't even get cases right stand? As for Rosewill and Coolmax, they're terrible, primarily for poor lifespan above all else. Most newegg reviewers rate stuff when new, not after a few months when it'll probably have gone bang and ruined their PC. As I say, there are still some decent brands left, but when the Corsair units have such an excellent track record and are so competitively priced, why not go for them?
in my newegg browsing experience corsairs are always a few bucks higher than similar products. however extra connectors, higher QC ect. can account for that so corsair may be a good brand for what it does. but many of the extra features are overkill for people therefore i'm just bringing up the fact that corsair isn't for everyone. on the otherhand i admit that what i saw as fanboyism might have just been based off of good experiences. also for some reason or another someone may want to buy a non-corsair psu so i figured that someone may as well compile a list of trustable and untrustable brands. also you are right in saying that buy.com has them cheaper
Please read what I write rather than just assume I'm wrong. The Corsair VX 450W is a non-modular, single rail power supply. Hardly a snazzy top model. They're also dirt cheap, $70 delivered from buy.com - http://www.buy.com/prod/corsair-vx-450w-power-supply/q/loc/101/205466485.html No offense meant here, but can you think of one? As I say, I think Corsair and PC P&C share the top dog sector, but the Corsair ones win out over noise. If someone doesn't want a Corsair, I'll recommend them a PCP&C Silencer, I have done before, and would do again. Out of interest the reason they wanted one was because they felt they needed 750W, and at that time, the TX 750W hadn't come out.
same to you. also the reason why i said that was, i apologize for not saying this, because many people if they buy all of their parts from newegg arent going to pricehunt on other sites for various reasons.
With free delivery, why wouldn't you? Kind of academic though, given the price of the 450W VX on newegg.

Or, rather than risk the contents of your PC on one of the cheapest brands out there, you could safeguard your valuable components buy actually buying a proper power supply. People's power supply choices are split into three groups. The first group make me say "good choice, you'll be fine" and contains Corsair, Tagan, PCP&C, Seasonic and Antec. The second group makes me say "they're not bad, but not what I would have gone with" and contains companies like Enermax, OCZ and FSP. The last group makes me say "you ought to get a better PSU before your PC goes up in smoke" and contains pretty much all the others, Super flower included. No matter what you might think, Superflower PSUs are to be avoided when there are so many far better alternatives. From Virtualhideout: If that's not enough, a second site recorded a 12V rail of just 11.36V only running a CPU load test, a very lightweight program compared to what the average gamer does on a daily basis. A third site also reported that the temperature inside the unit rose to 65 degrees celcius just running at 300W load. Consider that the corsair HX 1000W only made 55C at the full 1KW loading, and you see why I recommend them. If nobody likes a product here at aD, there's a reason for it. Don't get me wrong I like my old SuperFlower case, but it really is cheaply and poorly made. I just try not to think about that...
