Hi conb123, Your HJT Log is Clean but that don’t mean you don’t have an infection. In order to cleanup most malware problems and make a final cleaning of the leftovers easier, please do the following pre-clean. It may very well take care of your problems without the need of further cleaning: Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop. DO NOT use yet. Please download and install SUPERAntiSpyware Free • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation. • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and unzip into the program's folder.) • Under the "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences... button. • Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked. • Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked): o Close browsers before scanning. o Scan for tracking cookies. o Terminate memory threats before quarantining. • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program. • Do not run a scan just yet. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. • "Close" the program. Do not run a scan just yet. Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and before the Windows icon appears press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode". Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. • Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All. • Click the Empty Selected button. • If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All • Click the Empty Selected button. If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. • If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All • Click the Empty Selected button. If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program. Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows: • Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive. • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next". • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK". • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next". • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu. • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally. • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again. o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab. o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log. o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply. • Click Close to exit the program. Scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware as follows: Double-click and run mbam • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- Don't forget this. • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt Reboot to Normal Mode If you’re still having problems: Please describe those problems as best you can and post the SUPERAntiSpyware Log, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Log and a fresh HijackThis Lg in your next reply. 2OG

@ rab48124, R0 is for Internet Explorers starting page and search assistant. I really don’t know what search.notepad does but it looks like you’re using it.. R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://search.notepad.com My first thought is an Active-X Browser Hijacker that may not show in a Log.. Use this Tutorial to download, install and use SpywareBlaster: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial49.html The program cannot detect if you have any of the known objects already installed, but if you do, they will be disabled. 2OG p.s. let me know if that works…
Hello 2oldGeek, thanks for your help. I did what you suggested, but no luck I still have google redirecting to different sites. Bob
rab48124, One other thing I can think of is; the HOST file has been hijacked…… Download the program HostsXpert • Unzip HostXpert to your Desktop • Open up the HostXpert program. • Click the "Make Writable?" button in the upper left corner so it says ”Make ReadOnly?” • Then click on ”Restore MS Host File” • Close the HostXpert program If that works, let me know… If it doesn’t work, then do the following: 1. Download Combo fix from one of these locations. * IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your Desktop http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe 2. Click start > run and Copy and Paste this in exactly, using the picture below for reference, then click OK. 3. Combo will begin to run DO NOTHING while this is happening. • It will kill a few processes and disconnect you from the internet. • If by chance it stops prematurely you can re-establish your internet connection by restarting your computer. • This needs to be done so the program can work most efficiently for you. Do not attempt to use the internet or anything else while it's doing its job for you. **Understand that things like your system clock changing and your desktop disappearing might happen. Do not worry, because all will be restored later. If when it's completed you can not get on the internet just reboot the computer Post the log from comboFix for me located in c:\comboFix.txt 2OG

rab48124, Are you still redirecting??? That scan picked up a hidden ADS Sream but other that that, the Log is as clean as an Old Maid’s Parlor…. : ) The only thing I can see is that your Java needs updating: Download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop. ***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer before continuing!*** • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK • A logfile will pop up. Save it to a convenient location • Click on Additional Tasks then tick Remove Useless JRE Files • Click Go then OK when prompted & close the program. Not to second guess the experts but, everyone I have asked about this hijacking and thru Google search says " GET rid of Superantispyware" yet, the solution above is to download it and run it. Is there something we are missing? IS Superantispyware SAFE to use?
I don’t know who you are asking or what you are Googling but, if you will google for “review superantispyware” you will find that it is one of, if not THE best antivirus/malware/Trojan removers on the market today and it’s free. Be sure not to confuse it with one of the rogue antispyware removers…. 2oG
