got a letter from vir+in today

    it says in the letter
    dear mr *********
    It has been brought to out attention that someone at your address has purchased and may be using an unauthorised set-top box
    when i phone vir+in he say found out through paypal

    You could just say it must have been a previous tenant or housemate.

    They still have no proof that you are using one though. Just because it is in your possession doesn't mean that you are using it.

    Also, PayPal wouldn't release information on what you purchased without a court order. I'd say they're lying.

    they cant get that info from paypal and you can own a box and use it but only for fta so tell them to take a fly f***

    Just to let ye know I got same letter from vir+in today aswell.
    I havnt rang em yet though

    Wondering how they got the info or is it just guesswork....

    just phone vir+in again and he say PayPal release the information and it is in ur teams and conditions with paypal for then to give the
    information out

    Something sounds wrong with this, can't see this meeting the requirements of the Data Protection Act. PP can't just hand over your personal information to anyone unless there is a strong possibility that an illegal act is being carried out (and even then I think the cops or an order from a court would have to be involved). All of these boxes are legally available, it is the connection to a cable providers nextwork that is the illegal act, this cannot be automatically presumed as you could have yours connected to a FTA network. Have you called PP to query this?

    some-one is takin the micky to me

    some one you know may have made up the letter and sent it to you

    maby a "FAKE LETTER"

    best thing to do is forget about it

    and if you get a knock at the door always ask "WHO IS IT"

    and have the box under your arm and be perpared to "RUN OUT THE BACK DOOR"

    im not takin the piss.. i wound n't like to get this letter either..

    Wasn't one of the main retailers busted in UK and all their accounts were checked over so I read a good while ago.

    There's no way they got that info from paypal anyway. It came from the retailer saying a payment came in from you.

    did a bit of reading through the threads

    question.....

    did these people "DOWNGRADE" their package

    and i very curious to hear what PAYPAL have to say for them selves

    did some-one e-mail them ???

    I highly doubt that PayPal would release this information, although it is possible. Virgin aren't listed as one of the parties that they disclose information to though ;)

    Have a read through here its an old tactic and has been going on a while,they obviously got micky78's details off a trader. HERE
