I keep getting the message 'failed to read from the file' and 'Compiling DVD volume failed'.

is your dvd copy protected or anything, is your drive firmware up to date, have you tried another, better program like DVDShrink <?>

all questions you must ask, hope you find your solution...

Phantom, Nero Recode 2 is better than DVD Shrink. Its faster and does a better job at compressing. I am not sure if you know but, the same guy who created DVD Shrink, went to work for Ahead Software (Nero) and created Nero Recode 2. (Hence why the development of DVD Shrink ended.)

yes i do know that jmet, i have just found that dvd shrink is more user friendly and uses less memory and also i have found that it is in fact in the same leagues AS recode...

Well, by looking at the above failure errors, it looks like it's a "encrypted/protected" dvd with some kind of bad sectors, possibly "MacroVision's RipGuard".

Just out of curiosity, what movie are you trying to encode with Nero Recode 2? And what programs did you used to rip the original movie from?

    @charliex

What Mode did you ripped it from DVD Decrypter? I recommend to use the Mode, File F to rip and decrypt into your hard drive first, then you can import your VIDEO_TS files into Nero Recode. Well, try the following settings on DVD Decrypter and give it a shot. If you try ripping in File Mode and it still gives you the error when "encoding" with Nero Recode 2, then come back and I'll see what I can do to help you out alright. SAW shouldn't be hard to rip and encode at all.

**NOTE: in prior to the ripping part, let’s tweak/set a few settings inside DVD Decrypter **

** open up DVD Decrypter, go to Tools, and Settings
    [IMG]

** at General on “Removal Method” arrow down to “Aggressive”

** at I/O, check “Ignore Read Errors”

** at “File Mode” check on all of the Remove, Ignore, Pacth and Create MDS file.

** at CSS check “Brute Force à I/O key exchange, On Failure: use key from another file [YES]

** at “ISO Read Mode” check on all Remove and Create MDS file
    [IMG]

    A) once you’re done with the settings, click OK to get out from the settings and starts to rip/decrypt the movie.
