Hi!!! I have 2 50 packs of "GQ Great Quality" 8x DVD+R's and I have a LG 16x DVD +R,+Rw,-R,-Rw,+R-DL burner. But every time burn data, movies, etc. I can only burn at 4x max speed with "GQ Great Quality" DVD's and when I burned with a generic DVD+R It burned fine at 8x. I use Nero to burn these disks. Can anyone help me solve my problem? Please and Thanks!!!
First make sure your burner firmware is up to date, second run the disk through DVD Identifier, see what it says. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm
a while ago I found out that even though your burner and your media may support certain speeds, firmware may tell your burner not to burn at certain speeds. For example, I have a LiteOn LDW811S, which can burn DVD-R at 1x, 2x, or 4x. I have Ritek G04 DVD-R discs, which support 1x, 2x, and 4x. But I can only burn these G04's at 2x or 4x. What happened to 1x? Well I found out that firmware told it not to burn those particular discs lower than 2x. Kinda funny, but such is life...
Squizzle I agree 100% I've come across some 4x -Rs that I could ONLY burn at 4x, no option for 1 or 2x. It comes down to a combination of media, software, firmware, they all have to be a go for a certain speed
It's strictly how your burner sees the media. In other words, the way that the firmware tells your burner what's what. For example, in the old days I purchased DVD’s from CompUSA that were the cheapest on the market. They turned out to be PRINCO 1X DVD-R media that would be recognized by my Optorite 4X burner as 1X or 2X. But the same media in my Asus DRW-1604P Burner only sees the ability to burn them at 1X. The PC, software, and any related hardware is all the same. The only difference is the burners and their firmware. Just a side note: That media is and has not been used by me for quite some time and my preferred media is what is shown below. One more example is that the Sony DVD-R 8X can burn at all speeds up to 16X and the Sony DVD+R 8X media can burn at all speeds up to 12X on my Asus burner.
ScubaBud I think I'm saying the same thing as you except I added software as a factor because you don't always have to burn at max, you can slow it down
I've run into a similar problem. I have an 8x Toshiba Dvd-burner (SD-R5272). I've been burning at 8x no problem on Memorex 8x DVD-Rs. I just bought a crapload of Memorex 16x DVD-Rs and for some reason Nero will only let me choose to burn up to 4x. I've updated my firmware from Toshiba's website and the problem is still there. Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks, Bonggler
