    Grab it whlie you can, it will play almost anything including formats many other players wont touch.

    mplayer and other opensource projects have had the same warnings up for some time now.

    Still if you or anyone else is part of the EU, you should contact your local EU representatives.

    I tried opening two videos with it and all I got was a blank screen????

    It still relies on some external codecs, do you have FFDshow and Xvid?

    It doesn't require either. VLC includes libavcodec already, plus some of the other libs that ffdshow uses (libdts came from VLC), not sure if it also includes XviD, but that shouldn't matter.

    Black screen sounds like a direct-x/overlay issue.
