Okay i went out and bought the US version yesterday...had 3 friends go in on it. Like everyone else says it no worky! i have hd advance and loader wont work. First prob was ps2 only read it as 2gig. So i read to transfer it using winhiip and then use the original to boot??? Not understanding that...What making copys and doing cogswap for the US version?

Does anyone have the full original USA or PAL version of the game? An exact copy of the original? I would'nt mind having a go trying to get it working on dvd9 or maybe even dvd5. I think i have worn out GT3 got 100% and hybrids.

I have PS2 Messiah 120gb Maxtor HDloader, AR Max Evo,

if you could reverse the 2nd layer to opt instead of ptp, or vice versa if it is in opt and needs to be in ptp, im not sure which, and then save it into 1 iso? would that work?

Yeah it would. But I don't think you'd be able to do that. OTP and PTP are completely different. OTP (Movies) is for reading linearly (follows the same path all the time) whereas PTP is for reading randomly (like games, they never know for 100% sure where you're going to go, so sometimes it might read here on the disc, other times over there).

well, i have a program that can master a dvd iso into either ptp or otp, you can choose. im thinkin this program could be used to remaster the dvd instead of the sony cd/dvd generator. if someone is willing to try it, the program is called GEAR PRO 6.05 Mastering Edition (avaliable at http://www.gearsoftware.com/products/mastering/index.cfm for a free trial) i will try but im new at this so i wouldnt know if im doing it right in the first place.

If you read back a ways gear mastering pro wont work....I tried burning with that in December no luck. Most DVDR drives wont even let you burn with it anyway, it will probably only let you test burn. It is supposed to be used to mass manufacture a cd/dvd with an actual cd/dvd press not a regular dvdr/rw drive. You can try for yourself if you want though.

The only way this is going to work is if it's ripped to DVD5. In order to do this...a .VOL program is needed to extract GT4.vol and GT4L1.vol (Before someone else asks since most people dont take the time to read older post the .VOL extracter for GT3, GT4 prolouge, and the GT4 BMW Demo disk DO NOT work). After everything is extracted you would most likely have to rip all the music, movies, etc. If it's even possible to rip that much stuff (650 cars and 100 tracks is ALOT of shit). After ripping enough to make it fit on DVD5 and adding dummy files for all the stuff that was replaced. You would have to rebuild the .VOL file. And do a bunch of hex editing to several files on the disc to relink any calls to layer1 to layer0 and any calls to GT4L1.vol to just GT4.vol. Seems to me that would work. But thats alot of work and so far noone has been able to make a program to extract these .VOL files.

K i think i covered just about everything....let me know if i missed something.

*Oh ya by the way i asked about being able to play the Orginal GT4 US release on my V4 console. Thanks for the replys but after an hour of yelling and a bunch of beers I just went out and bout one of those V12 slim PS2's

*AND FINALLY BACK TO GT4.....THIS GAME IS fusking AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what about hdloader? i understand it has trouble reading the second layer on a ps2.... but what about using that program that allows you to back the game up using your computer... i think i read somewhere that it allows the second layer to be read...so crash and everyone else... are you saying that there will be no possible way for the full gt4 to be backed up with out taking out all of that stuff...? if so is it worth the $50?

emrodo, you were talking about flattening the image right? there is a procedure that lets you take the data on the second layer and put it in the first layer, so that the result is a single-layer image of more than 4.7GB that boots from hdloader... this worked for other DVD9 games, but DOESN'T WORK for GT4, i guess this is because GT4 has acutal calls to physical sectors in the second layer, and unless you redirect those calls it is a waste of time...

    Another failed attempt story:

Used DVD Decryptor to pull the original, store bought US/NTSC GT4 image onto my hard drive, it generated an ISO file with the size of: 5,314,478,080 bytes.

Loaded it onto the PS2 HD using Handiness, took about 20 minutes with the PS2 HD attached to my PC via IDE. HD Advance V2 loaded the image without a problem (in Mode 3) but wouldn't get past the copyright screen unless I put in the original GT4 disk.

When I put the disk in, the game loaded up all fine and well, but it accessed the disk so often that I received no benefit from having that 5GB image on the HD. Ejecting the disk at any disk load (like when you want to hop in a new car in the garage) makes the game go black until you put the GT4 disk back in.

Since I was first in line at EB games to buy it on Wednesday, my original intention was to decrease load times in GT4 by creating a HD backup, like I did with GTA SA. However with this GT4 "backup", the laser still wore and tore as usual and load time speed increases were minimal, if at all. It just accessed the original GT4 CD all the time regardless of the image file. I don't have a stopwatch but I really don't think there was any advantage of running it off the HD.

However the more I think about it the less I'm worried about having a HD backup for speed/loading purposes. Really, it's a ton of dicking around to shave what, maybe 4 seconds off load times in a multi-stage race. IMHO the game loads fast enough and I'm never really saying, C'MON LETS GO HERE when I play it off the original. Definely not like Burnout 3 which seemed to have improved 50x faster by running it off the HD.

I say we all just take our images, and wait for someone to come out with a PPF for it.

If anyone comes out with a fix, it'll most likely be a patch to do all the work that could theoretically get this game to work.

Until then, I'm just going to play my original copy :D

HD Loader is far quicker at loading games than using DVD or CD versions of the game. I have Gran Turismo 3 on hard drive and the load times are instant no waiting on races to load. Usually with dvd original you get small flashing white square in left corner when you go race or change to arcade mode etc. Also GTA San Andreas works better too with no slow down when there is alot on screen. All games I have on HD run far better on HD. I am in UK so just waiting on release of GT4 9th March. It sucks. Was trying to get my hands on a USA Ntsc 60HZ version of the game cos its in MPH not KPH. Also its full screen no borders and gameplay is faster due to 60hz. As soon as I get my hands on the game i will do all I know to try get it to work on HD or DVD-R.

I've downloaded the "Pal" version through Bittorent and burned it with dvd decrypter on a verbatim dual layer.

The game boots and I get the cars blabla bla screen and then the sceen becomes black and stays black.....

    I have a V12 PS2 with martix infinity 1.39

Does everybody have this problem or is it just me....

Can anybody confirm that there is a working version that has been burned by themselves?

Well, there's a Gran Turismo 4 USA DVD5 bittorrent out and it's around 2062 Mb. SOmeone check it out to see if it works. I wonder how much was taken out or compressed since the version was on DVD9. I also heard that the Asian version got more extra stuff that you wont be getting in the USA version. I'm going to wait just a bit to get a second hand version for a cheaper price since I just recently bought the Asian version.

    Hey Asia911
So far, All images are found to be Nuke!, There seems to be special locking system in it, not a PPF problems.

    Hey phong9,

So you're saying that bittorrent GT4 isn't working? You might be right since not alot of people are sharing it and they problably got rid of the files.
