Hi, I am upgrading my son's Dell E510 so he can play Batman Arkham Asylum. My question is regarding the graphics card. I am considering these two cards, one is 512 and one is 1 gig. SAPPHIRE 100296HDMI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Retail $74.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102855 SAPPHIRE 100295HDMI Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Retail $69.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102854 The monitor is a Dell 1907FB Flat Panel. The Processor is:Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs) The power supply of the E510 is 300w and I don't want to upgrade it at this time. There is already an older RADEON X600 Series that Dell installed as an upgrade in one of the PCIe slots, I may have to remove that to make room for one of these since the card is somewhat large. I'm also upgrading his RAM to 2 gigs from the current 1 gig. Any reason to get the slightly more expensive card? I think that EIDOS suggests 512 for the game. Thanks in advance !
The 4670 won't really make use of 1GB, so 512 is just as good. I would likely propose you get the HIS HD 4670 IceQ as it will run cooler, quieter and can OC better. It costs less than $10 more than the ones you picked but it is a better card. If you don't need the extra power from OC and temps and noise isn't an issue you can save a few bucks with the other ones. That computer SHOULD play the game, your a little on the lower end for CPU power though so your settings will likely have to be turned down a little. The 4670 will easily play this game though.
Thanks for the info - we're not going to OC and noise, etc. not an issue so I"ll probably go with the 512 4670. Now my next project is to figure out whether to get Crucial memory from Crucial or from Newegg! After I do this upgrade I should get the Mom of the year award.
Crucial Memory works great but they do not honor rebates... I got my ram pretty cheap, or so I thought, but they never sent me my rebates. I tried contacting them and Cust. Service does respond pretty quickly, but I never got back my 2 x $20 rebates they offered me. Wait for a real sale. to ddp, I never said he had a single core CPU but he does. Pentium 4's did not come in dual core models, they had a 2nd virtual core from HT technology. Dual cores were built off the P4 design but no actual P4's were considered real dual core CPU's. But its similar. My 5000+ BE X2 at 2.9GHZ > P4 3.0 GHZ with HT. Still a great CPU for everyday non-extreme gamer imo though.
Right now there is no rebate on the RAM from Crucial but I checked and the same exact RAM is cheaper through Newegg, so that's the way I'll go. thanks!
