I am getting a 37" lcd tv on tuesday. Its an LG with 1080p. I want to hook up my computer to it. It has the vga and dvi inputs on it. I was going to use vga inputs, but have read that dvi is beter. Anyone have any comments on that? Anyhow, i dont currently have dvi outputs on my current graphics card, hence i started this thread! I was looking on ebay for some, but i wasnt sure on which one to get seeing as they all had different mb sizes by them..not sure what that is used for, but i was told i want atleast 128 or biger. I just need help overall. And how do i know for sure if my current power supply is enough for a ned graphics card? Would getting a vga to dvi converter be better for my case then getting a new graphics card? Any links provided with your response would be greatly appreicated! I just need some help fast so i can start enjoying my tv when it comes in on tuesday!!
if your graphics card doesn't have DVI, there's no point in an adapter as the picture won't look any better than just using VGA. 1080p TVs offer a high image quality though, and you're putting one to waste if all you have is integrated graphics with VGA only - for a start, integrated graphics may cause you problems for running High def off your PC, and if you want to play any games it's hopeless. What spec is your PC? You might need a new PSU as well if you're getting a new graphics card.
Your choice of graphics card really depends on what you are going to be using it for...... If you are an avid gamer then you are going to want a high spec graphics card, but Im going to presume you're not seen as though you're not familiar with DVI, etc,. If you want a fairly cheap card that can still keep up with the rest then Id go for an 8800GT 512mb or even 1gb. They are less than $200 (£100) and have DVI, HDTV Composite / TV Out.
Well, for a card that uses that much power, the HD4850 is only $175 and twice as fast as the 8800GT, but for a PC that only has integrated graphics, it obviously isn't a gaming PC, so such a card is unnecessary.
thanks for all the replys! No gaming pc here, though. And i dont want to spend much money at all! Over $100 is way to high for me! lol..all i want to do is basically get the computer to show up on my lcd tv for times when i just want to lay in bed and surf the web and stuff. Just basically to get a bigger picture. I dont do computer games at all, so no need for one fancy card. Just one that will get me by with the best picture. I watch some movies on my computer as well since it has a dvd player on it so i wont have to use my playstation. O, here are a few specs on my comp..let me know if ya'll need more on it. Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60 GHz 1.60 GHz, 960MB of RAM For all that im going to do, do i just need to stick with the vga? I mean, i want to be able to get the best picture avaliable and i just dont know what to do!!!!
Slap one of these in and use its DVI connector... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127368
