I'd take the maxell plus format any day. Hitachi on the japanese and Ritek on the taiwanese. For $5,they are probably riteks, but still very good quality media.

It's the dash that you have to be cautious of.Reports of cmags are emerging on the taiwanese dash format. For the dash, look for the japanese spindles. They are made by Hitachi.

I swung by my local Staples and they did NOT have Playo. In fact the clerk had never heard of them (big surprise).

I will still buy some, because even if they have a high error rate, as long as it isn't too high (to waste my time) then it is just too good to pass up.

Yes, it goes without saying that nothing good will be burned on these dvds, as I will use my TY's for my movies.

    Has this been confirmed?

This is a great deal. I wasn't gonna fight the traffic on Friday, but fot this it would be worth it.

Good luck getting that Office Depot ad confirmed. I revisited the websites that post those ads, and it appears that Office Depot is making a big stink about having their ad posted early, so the ad was pulled down by the website.

I don't think anyone will be abkle to confirm this before Nov 24. However, if someone can, please post, because I would rather buy those discs than some no-name Playos.

I'd like to hear a confirmation on those OD maxells as well. About 45 mins away from my nearest one,but with the traffic-more like an hour!

I think they were $3.94 a spindle after rebate.I tried the easy rebate, which I also had a couple other items with rebates and the playo rebate would not be accepted via staples easy rebate.I have to send it in the mail, which takes a heck of a lot longer.

I tested 1 in my benq 1620 and burned it at 8x speed. Here's the scan:

Not exactly as good as my ty and hitachi scans, but better than my cmag scans. I just watched that backup and it looked ok.An older player will definitely have issues with them.

Am exhausterated!!!!! if that is a real word ! Can confirm that in New orleans atleast That OFFICE DEPOT was running the 25packs of maxell DVD+R & DVD-R media for $4.99 each !! Whether or not the local store there had product I can't say ! As I said I cheated ! Found a copy of the sale paper at WALLYWORLD and bought them there ! same price ! all are the MIT's Made in Taiwans ( only ones they had) bought the dash'es mostly but bought a couple packs of the PLUS R too! also managed to snag a 25pack of the inkjet printables maxells for same price! do these usually code out the same as the std. ones ? hasd'nt had chance to run any thru dvd identifier yet still buried in bags with toys and other assorted deritus of the day ! Hoping not CMC crap but for about .20cents each I'm willing to take a chance? Hope you enjoyed Black Friday & Turkey Thursday! Peace& happy burning!

Why don't you just have all of them in there and run them all at once in RAID. This way yoou have 400GB of total HD space and you won't have to backup all the things in your other HD.

just passing... trouble is, if you do only RAID 0 across both you'd lose data on both drives if one went splat..

had that happen to us at work on Thursday but the data was backed up and the disk was 200GB of RAID 0 (made up of loads of 18GB drives). but it caused the server to go splat on a scheduled reboot so i rebuilt the 200GB as 84GB of stripe-mirror (RAID 0+1 for any passers by that read this) with 5 hot spare disks left over

creaky- It's all greek to me ! I just plan to change out the puny (by todays standards ) 40gb factory drive in my emachines computer ! & replace it with the 400Gb hiTACHI ! With the old 40gb drive may just keep it incase one or the other big drives dies or may wipe it & put it in a usb enclosure and use it for my top secret stuff ! heh! heh heh! LOL! But seriously folks ! Will probably make the 400GB the C drive and the 160 GB the D drive but am open to suggestions ! the 40GB if I put it in a usb enclosure would end up being the G or H drive depending if card reader is hooked up or not ! Space !!!!!!!!! Gee it's Gosh awful huge ! LOL! Happy Burning creaky! & happy holidays

I burned 1 of those playo's. The PI/PO scan wasn't the greatest, but playback was ok in my newer stand alone player. It didn't miss a bit.

ozzymary: Did you have any trouble with the easy rebate for those playos?Mine wouldn't take,so I have to send that rebate in via usps mail. The hard drive was no trouble with using easy rebate.
