Great graphics card, doesnt work to full potential

alright, so i bout a Nvidia Geforce 4000 graphics card (fairly decent card) and i got Halo for the PC, i put in halo PC(which has a minimum graphics card requirement of 32mb when mine is a 128mb) and it is low detail, so i go into video setting and set everything properly with all my graphics setting on high and such and i can't see the blades of grass or any of the small things that make the game halo such an amazing experience, if you guys could help me out with this that would be great, thanks

 

I hate to disappoint you, but I did a search on Google for that card, it is only £19 ($40). Unfortunately, you do NOT have a decent card. If you expect it to play Halo, or any other game for that matter, you WILL be greatly disappointed! Why do you think it is a decent card? Whoever recommended this card is not your friend!
Your card would have a heart attack just trying to show high detail, never mind getting a decent playable frame rate!

You need to spend a couple of hundred pounds ($300) to get a half decent card. The best you will do is to get the latest drivers. But even then you will pull your hair out. The best card you could get would be a 6800ultra, I am assuming that you have an AGP MOBO, whether you have 4X or 8X AGP is another matter!

Where graphics cards are concerned, money talks!

I am afraid you have to get another card if you want a good gaming experience.

 

lol, o and the BEST videocard would be the geforce 7--- (7--- i forget the last 3 numbers) its awesome and goes for around $600-$650

 

that old Geforce MX4000 is a crap graphics card and your pc probably isnt up to scratch for playing halo either as it would have had a better card in to start with if it was. it may be worth upgrading your graphics card depending on the rest of your systems specs

 

Don't get the 7800 GTX buy an ASUS SLI mobo (around $100) and double up PCI express 6800 GTs. This is more than twice the power, memory, shaders, and core clock speed of a 7800 GTX, and when the 8800 comes you'll be running along with that.

 

Like everyone else has said the Geforce 4000 is quite an old card & is very dated by todays stanards , if you want to play games on your pc then you have 2 options 1. upgrade your current pc 2.(a)build a new pc from scratch or (b)buy a better pc ....

oh & 2 6800Gt/ultras in sli can just about keep up with a single 7800gtx

 

screw it lets all get a quad sli mobo and 4 bfg 7800 gts on there

well, i thought a 128mb card was alright, just trying to get more replies by saying it was great, the system requirements for halo pc are only like 32 or 34megs or something like that, so i figured it would be good, and my friends told me it was a good card... so maybe they aren't my friends... lol, but... at least i know i spent what was left on my christmas money on a crappy graphics card.... o well thanks anyway you guys

 

It's not they are not your friends, they just do not know anything about computers. I am by no means an expert, but if you spend $30 or so dollars on a card & there are cards for $500+, well, doesn't take much working out does it!?

Without rudely saying it sucks, the MX4000 is a Generation IV card. Three generations ago, you can't expect that much. What you have to realise is that it's not really about memory it's about performance. The clock speeds of that card will be very low. I wouldn't advise going SLi, it's more cost than it's currently worth. And besides, that card is AGP, so you can't use SLi anyway since it requires PCI express, unless you do as Pokey says and buy another motherboard. Bear in mind with

Try a Radeon X800 or Geforce 6800GT instead. SLi costs 2x as much for 30% gain.
Would you mind telling us the specs of the rest of your PC?
Obviously it's a waste getting a top end GPU if you're still running a Pentium III with SDRAM, which given the age of that graphics card, you may well be.

 

i didn't spend 30 dollars on my card, i spent like 63, and i know that there are far better cards out there, but there is one problem, $. I don't have 300 dollars to spend on a graphics card, and if i did i think i would have better things to spend it on than that... but.... o well

 

i know my card isn't that good, but i know people who use worse cards then mine and they can see more details in halo PC, so can some one give me a yes or no on whether or not i should be able to see grass and those kinds of things (i dont care about how bad my card is i already know) so could someone plz answer that one question, cause i know people (who claim) that their cards are worse than mine and they still play halo PC

 

o and just to get it out there, my comp has a 2.53ghz intel celuron processer, 160gig hdd space, 512mb DDR Ram, and it is a brand new comp and it came with one of those Intel extreme graphics 2 built in graphics card things (it was a christmas gift and the person who customized it for me had no idea what they were doing)

 

The rest of the PC is fine, so you shouldbe able to find a better card. The $63 on the MX4000 sounds like a raw deal. If you're still tight on $, sell that card on ebay and buy something like a Radeon 9550 or even 9600. They're still cheap (sub $100 I'm near certain) and will perform far better, with capability for full shader details (which the MX4000 doesn't have, and might explain lack of detail). I assume you have actually tried upping the detail settings until the game is on the point of being jerky? Because minimum detail will look rubbish, but you may be able to up it slightly, though far more so with a:
6200 (AGP), 9250, 9550, 9600

 

thanks, that was an answer that actually helps, and yeah, all my settings are on high so the game starts to lag when i fire or am under fire, i regret spending all that money on it, but hopefully i can figure out a way to return it, best buy is pretty good on returns.

 

alright, i will consult you guys before i buy, i'm looking at a VisionTek XTASY ATI RADEON X300 SE 256MB HyperMemory PCI Express Graphics Card, it costs 103$, is this good enough for what i need?

 

wat mobo have u got becasue if u have an agp card then more than likly will not have pci-e technology on ur motherboard so therefore that will not work in your comp as PCI-E not AGP.

Edit: But that is the sort of thing u should be looking at if not better.

 

You have an AGP graphics slot on your board, as wdowsing would have noticed had he read your earlier post. an X300 sounds PCI express to me, so no good. Also, avoid anything that calls itself by the name of 'hypermemory' or 'turbocache'
These cards nick system RAM for their usage, not only it is it slow and unsuited for graphical purposes, but obviously free to the graphics card. It also reduces what's available to your main CPU.
I'd suggest looking at the cards I said, as these are AGP.

 

sammorris i had read his post and was telling him to be careful, i though he may have had one with both or have u neva heard of that?, u neva know so i was asking for him mobo so that i could check.
