    I have 2 versions - one that actually installs on my machine and the other that just opens when you click on the file - seems to be newer. What's the purpose of that, and is it better for some reason? Is the newest version available for actual install?

    New one supports more formats and provides more info. Just unpack over the old one.

    But is there one that actually installs as opposed to having to run it from the file?

    Manual "installation" for gSpot version 2.52 Beta:

    - Extract all the files in GSpot252b01.rar to a folder ("gSpot")
    - Cut and paste the folder into your "C:\Program Files" folder.
    - Right click and "Create Shortcut" for "GSpot.exe"
    - Click and drag that new shortcut to your Start menu (Start > Programs)

    To uninstall:
    - Delete the folder from your Program Files folder.
    - Delete the shortcut from your menu.
