No one is saying, well at least not me that SR is a better game. Im just saying dont write it off as a GTA rip off because its a sandbox game.

The idea for Saints Row is a blatant spin-off they knew this when they made it, trust me. It will only push the envelope, and make the other team try harder. But if you love GTA than just accept it, now you have two openended gangland games to choose from. If the SR team wasnt making SR they would be working on some other game that would expand some other genre. Just be happy they took interest in GTA and not another WW2 game. Seriously this is an awesome time to be alive. Quit acting like a bunch of spoiled <EDIT>

GTA has better graphics, and a longer story mode.

Saint's Row has a better story, than GTA's of the past.

IMO GTA is better, but I own SR and will get SR2 when it comes out.

People who use the "GTA is better because it was the first free roam game" argument are silly. By that logic Atari pwns any system ever created and Double Dribble is the world's greatest basketball game.

Oh so an argument based in reality is stupid? GTA was the inspiration for SR, you deny that and you might as well deny evolution. SR had lame characters, a horrible story, even worse gun play and some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard. It tried to copy GTA but failed miserably. I'm sure a GTA clone will eventually come out that surpasses the originator, but so far nothing has come close.

nobody's denying that GTA was the inventor of Free Roam games. But the argument that no other game can ever be as good or better than GTA because they invented it is stupid.

Thats like arguing that 50s black and white TVs are better than Plasma/LCDs because they were the originals. Or that no other RPG is better than Dungeons and Dragons.

Game companies invent new genres all the time, only to have other companies perfect or improve on their ideas, thats the nature of all technology.

That being said, GTA is better than Saints Row, but its better because of the graphics, better gameplay, better online, better voice acting, less glitches, more in-depth story, and many other reasons, none of which being Saints Row is a GTA rip off.

I´ve played all GTA. From the first one. Even the first one expansion, in the UK. I´ve played Saint´s Row and I played The Godfather.

Now I haven´t played GTA San Andreas. I couldn´t identify with the character. If I wanted to pee in lamp posts to mark territory and spray walls I would do it in real life...

Now... Saints Row let me create my character, and I give great importance to that. The story in SR is ok, but what a great ending whas that, out of nowere! Im itchy for the second one since that ending. The gameplay never let me down, its simple and easy. It may be TOO simply and easy to other people, but ,or me thats great, since I can´t play videogames as much as I wished. Ant the most important, once i grew in the organization in the game, I really felt growing! No more stealing cars, I would just phone someone to pick me up, I´m someone important not a car jacker! The enemy got a stronghold? Yeah, get a group of people and storm it! Thats were the godfather missed, I´m second in command after Don freaking Corleone but im taking business and strongholds down by myself?

Now GTA 4... Niko is ugly and fat. Walking is clumsy, running is clumsy, driving is impossible. The only thing the guy do all right is shooting. Really, the physics in driving is absurd! A car flip for no reason at all, while turning at 40KM/h... Vehicles dont turn if you dont break and dont turn if you break while youre turning.... If you turn or break when youre more than 30Km/h the car make a 360º turn! It didnt even when i was trying to reverse!

Don´t get me wrong. All the ideas, options, side things to do are great and show the great effor put into the game. But in the end is a game about driving, and the driving is broken! Well, maybe i suck at it, but i play many racing games, and never had a problem. Hell, I drive a car in real life and were able to make perfect turns while acelerating while in speeds double the ones that make niko flip and spin his car...

Overall both games are good, but i don´t think GTA 4 deserves a 10, as it is not flawless, and over-all, Saint´s row, even a rip off (Yes, it´s a copy, but it doesn´t take away its merit), its the more fun open ended game i´ve played.

Now this shouldn´t be a flame war. Everyone got theyre opinions, it just gets to me when someone discards saints row as a "rip off". Yes, its a copy, but a great one, that improved a lot over san andreas, (my opinion)... And for me still the title holder.

I think is great that people like GTA IV, for all the effor its been put into the game. I really whant to play it to the end, and see all I can do, but I can´t drive! I hope an update comes out, enabling "simply driving" in the options or something... Now really, if someone sees I´m doing something terribly wrong, please teach me how to drive in GTA IV, and if it works, I´ll gladly edit this post, as the fixing of the driving sistem would make this game a 9. :)

Thanks if you read that far :-D

You were able to call people to drop off vehicles for you in Vice City (I think) and San Andreas.

Thank you Inalbis and slimdawg for bringing less ignorance and one sided fan boy opinions into the chat and instead giving credit where credit was owed for both games. Althought I dont aguree 100% with you about GTA 4 being bad at some of the things you said I do agree with all of the SR stuff. Spin-off maybe, rip off please.........

Maybe if you actually know something about Physics, you wouldn't be saying this. In GTA4's goal of realism, they had to get rid of the arcade driving.

I agree. i think what was unrealistic before was being able to flawlessly drive around the city with the pedal to the medal. In this version, you have to actually drive slower in order to not flip over and make 90 degree turns.

I don't like the driving controls in GTA IV. Some reason i can't get the hang of it. Saint's Row 2 will be awesome.

you have to drive slower than normal. People are used to driving full speed on every street, which is very unrealistic. you have to pull the trigger only about halfway and I find you drive a lot smoother.

i havent played very far into GTA IV however, one thing that i liked over saints row was the fact that you could store a ton of cars in your garage right from the get go.. gta might let you do that later in the game, i dunno

I don´t need to prove anyone what I know or what I don´t know. Thou, I tell you now I like to believe I know a thing or two about physics. I do drive my car and do tight turns, not in full speed, but absolutely in higher speeds than i can with a sports car in the game, and I also like to believe that driving my real life car attain some degree of "realism". Really, in the game I was driving around a fountain with a van and before the second turn it turned upside down...

Now once again I´m not trying to say the game is bad. I´m doing my best to enjoy this, why don´t you teach me something about realism and physics than and tell me how to drive the car instead of insulting my knowledge? Because i don´t see people flyping the car in the real life highways everytime they try to change lane when theyre over 50 Km/h...

    I second that.

As for the topic at hand, I just dont find how you can fairly compare GTA IV to Saints Row. Your comparing a 2nd quarter 2008 release to a third quarter 2006 game. This has given game makers roughly 2 years more of experience. Experience to not only add new features but to adapt to the programing more as well.

The only fair way to compare the series is to compare GTA:SA to SR because SR didnt really do much imo in pushing the 360 console in terms of capability and probably could have been released as an XBox 1 title if some things were removed and such, while GTA 4 seems to have opened new limitations in terms of what the 360 could do. Did it it push it to the limits? that i dunno but its plenty obvious it pushed the boundaries that were established.

Now to compare GTA:SA to SR, i personally have to agree that GTA:SA was the better of the two, but i cant place SR to far behind. SR added alot of stuff i found were features lacking from GTA:SA, while on the other hand I felt SR lacked some features that GTA:SA had.

great points, I still don't know why this thread was even created.
Maybe I should make a Perfect Dark vs. Halo 3 thread.

Thanks to all with sensible opinions, be it favoring SR or GTA4. I've gotten further in GTA and the game only gets better but still far from the best game I ever played.

The reason the thread was created was because GTA4 got a 10 and everyone seems to act like GTA4 (not GTA3 or any of it's spin offs) did something revolutionary, but so far it hasn't, it's just another GTA. Saints Row did a great job as a new GTA like next Gen game but got wrote off as a 2nd rate gta clone

I just wanted to see if it was just the name GTA, the reviewers were paid off, or if I was the only one that felt that GTA4 is nothing special, especially when compared to a great game like saint's row thats right on par with GTA4.

GTA 4 is a great game and I mean great but a 10/10 means no room for improvement and there is plenlty of room for some in GTA 4. But like Dat1boi said GTA 4 doesnt do anything revolutionary enough for a 10/10. Its a name game but hey who cares thats the mags job not mine. Mine is to enjoy the game for everything its worth. Thanks fellas for convo. Always a pleasure speaking with the A.D members about personal opinions towards gaming

"maybe you just need an HDTV to appreciate it."

LOL, i have a 56" DLP TV with full surround sound running through a $2000 receiver. So should i upgrade so i can appreciate Saints Row?

I agree with the whole 10/10 Dindi, i think it is great. Maybe 9/10 or possibly 9.5 even. But they improve the game every time they release a newer version. So to say that there is no room for improvement is a bit much.

"but got wrote off as a 2nd rate gta clone"
There is a good reason for that, It is because that is what saints row was trying to be. You go around in the gang life, Kill rival gangs, steal cars, and so on. I hate to tell you but that IS GTA.

Like i said on the last page. I am not saying people can't or should not enjoy Saints Row. Everyone likes something different. But you can not expect to start a thread comparing it to GTA when they are no where in the same league YET. Not saying that they can not improve and get there, who knows what the next version will bring at you.
