Hello, I am a total newbie to the whole backing up movie/HTPC scene so please bear with me. I have a Sony 400 Disc DVD changer and it sucks, so instead of continuing to create backups I was thinking of just ripping my collection to my hard drives and playing them directly from my PC. Here lye the problem as I have no DVD viewer on my computer…DOH! I have been ripping my movies down with DVD Decryptor and then creating the backups via DVD Shrink/Nero with great success, but have never tried to play them on my computer. So before I purchase a DVD player (I was thinking PowerDVD) my question (I know…FINALLY) is will PowerDVD read the file that DVD Decryptor creates or is there a better suggestion? I was also thinking of switching from XP Pro to Media Center, any thoughts on this? Any luck purchasing PowerDVD on ebay? My PC is hooked into my HT system but I'm not sure that makes it a HTPC as I'm not recording/for that matter even watching TV on my PC yet. Right now I'm wanting a glorified DVD player. Like I said complete freshman.

I did try to search with little success, is there a tutorial for that? I tried phrases, keywords, groups of keywords and couldn’t find what I was looking for. I either got no results or 298 pages worth.

Thanks for any and all input.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

PowerDVD is a very good player. If you did the rips in file mode, it will read them just fine. The ISO mode it will not read, nor will any player directly.

Windows Media Player will play the rips also. :)

Thanks for the reply. The 10 movies I have ripped down have all been in ISO so it looks like I will delete them and rerip them...unless there is an easier way. I have plenty of time to do this so until I hear different.... Thanks again for the reply.

I just read that again, windows Media Player will play the rips? I have V10.0 and if this works...my first kid will be named Dolphin! Will it work for all rips? Everytime I tried to play a DVD it choked. I googled it and found many similar problems and spent 1/2 and hour trying to fix it to no avail.

    Thanks!

Well I tried to watch Exorcism via windows media player and was instantly reminded of the scars previously left. I ripped it down using DVD Decryptor using file mode and it still wouldnt work. I'm on the hunt for PowerDVD.
