okay so i said i would do it, so i have

heres the guide for creating your custom .THM thumbnails for your psp movies

this will help out all the people who have movies without .THM files

for this guide i have used

    ACDsee fotoCanvas
a spiderman 2 pic i found on the net (you can either create you own or browse the net for the film pic you want)

you can get the trial version from here - http://www.acdsystems.com/products/acdsee/
do i recomend buyng it just for this?

no - if you have a photo editing suite of your own you will be able to use that instead, just do the same as i do with this
its even easier with Picturegirdle http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Image-Convertors/PictureGirdle.shtml

    1. right first up open foto canvas (or your own software)

    2. browse for your photo

    3. click on resize

    4. resize the photo to 160 pixels by 120 pixels
make sure you have the PRESERVE ASPECT RATIO box UNTICKED

    5. go to file and the save as - you can either name it M4Vxxxxx (replacing the x's with the name of you psp video) now or yuo can rename it afterwards

    6. make sure you have turned off the hide extensions in the settings tool box

    7. now change the exstention of your picture to .THM (remember if you didnt save the name of your file to match the one of your video you will need to do so now

    8. copy the thumb (and your video if you havn't) over to your psp

x://MP_ROOT/100MNV01/ (x being your removable drive)

    9. switch on your psp and enjoy your custom thumbs

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    hope you find this helpful

    p.s
I've also added the link to this in my FAQS guide, so if it goes of the main page - and people ask about .THM files just point them towards that

    thanks

i wanted to do one with freeware photo editing but i tried googles picaso but the resizing was crap

and i couldnt be bothered signing up for kodaks or fotofinish

if people dont have there own software you could download one of those and try them - but dont bother with googles cos its crap and doesnt resize correctly

Yea , But oh well . I think ppl will be more happy at the fact you made this tut , rather then the programs you used to do so ;)

Hey guys...I use PSPvideo 9..and it works great at converting. Just an issue I have that's bugging me. It creates the .MP4 video just fine...but when it's playing on my PSP..it stops at random times saying this video cannot be played or something like that. However if I fast forward thru the whole movie it will "play" fine. But if it's on normal speed, it "dies". Any suggestions and help will be appreciated. Thanks!

WHEN I PUT THE FILE IN THE MP_ROOT FOLDER IT COMES UP AS THE PICTURE NOT AS A REGULAR .THM. I PUT IT EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE M4V000X BUT WHEN I TURN ON THE PSP IT COMES UP AS CORUPTED DATA. OH YEAH I COPIED AND PASTED IF THAT IS WHAT YOU MEANT. IT DIN'T COME UP AS THE SIXTH PICTURE IN YOUR THREAD. THIS MIGHT HAVE BEEN IN TOOLS BOX WHEN YOU SAY TO TURN THE HIDE EXTENSIONS OFF. I COULDNT FIND IT AT ALL. SO WHATS UP WITH THIS?

OH YEAH THE PSP SAYS "THE DATA TYPE IS NOT SUPPORTED"

right first off you dont put it in MP_ROOT folder you put it in 100MNV01 folder wich is inside the MP_ROOT folder

2 make sure its in mp4 format

3 you have to turn the hide extension for known file types [bold] off[/bold]

or it wont change the file extension so therefor wont look like the 6th picture

if it doesnt look like the 6th picture then you have done it wrong

    4. also turn off your caps lock

well i did put it in 100MNV01, and do you have to download it to be in mp4 format because i just copied and pasted from the internet, but can you change it to mp4 using video9? And another thing i found how to turn off the file extension but it was on the 100MNV01 file. and sorry about the caps lock wasn't paying attention.

yes if your viddeo isnt MP4 then you will need to convert it with either psp video 9 or nero recode
i suggest psp vid 9 and i also suggest you go to setup and change the volume to 500% as if you dont it will be quiet

pspvid 9 will actually create a THM file(for you) thats the funny part

right so you have a file on desktop

right click on it and go to properties if its says

Type of file: MPEG-4 media file then thats okay - if its not you will need to encode it with psp vid 9

if it is and you dont have a THM file then you do as is stated above and create your own

if you cant manage all of that

    open paint

save file as M4vxxxx (whateva) copy and paste to psp (in the folders stated above)

rename (after taking off exstention thing - as stated above) to M4vxxxxx.THM

and your done. although you wont have a custom file (just a white box) with paint you will be able to play it atleast

and no this is not the most stupid question i have answered there has been far worse.

OK i didn't think of this could it be that i upgraded to 2.5 on accedent. will this not put the files together? because the psp still says that it is "unsupported Data". then it says "This video cannot be played. The data type is not supported" i'll keep trying though. Thanks for the help:) you tried your best to teach me but i'm just not able to follow your dierections. though i thought i did everything like you said.

but as i tried to open the mpeg4 file i had using picturegirdle, all my movie files, even those that were converted using pspvideo9 were not shown, meaning i cannot open those movie files to resize them, is there any reason behind it?
