Not your ip address, your Default Gateway and use IE if you're not.
Yup, you should be looking for the default gateway. Just use windows + r, cmd, ipconfig to see it. Use http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm for more information.
Hey guys, nice guide, i've followed it and tried to maximize download speeds...heres my specs
10 MB down
1 MB up
Download Speed: 8765 kbps (1095.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1018 kbps (127.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
i see high speeds on private trackers sometimes
but when i use public trackers with 40+ seeders...i tha max download i get is around 40KB, i would think that i would be able to download much faster, not only that but on torrents that have 25 seeds why is it that the number in front is only 2 0r 3 example.......3(25) why is the number in front so low (this is the amount of peers im connected to correct?) how can i change that to a higher number?
in general, what do you guys think my download/upload speeds should be for
A private trackers
B public trackers
(i understand the amount of seeders make a difference, i just thought having this fast of a connection, it would be much faster than what it is)
thanks for the help guys
On private sites, seeders need to maintain a good ratio and keep their U/L settings up to get it, on public sites, they probably have their U/L set down after they complete and you have no way of knowing. Try raising Global connections to connect to more seeders. You can see your max speeds by dividing those results by 8, 1 KB = 8 kb, then U/L speed again by by 80% for client, settings in clients may be in KB (kilobytes) but show in kb (kilobits) but Cable will fluctuate, check it at various times on various days.
Thanks for the great guide!
Still curious about one thing tho. The WinXP TCP/IP max half-open connection limit is not mentioned. Since I've read a couple of guides recently and every single one recommends a different setting I'd be glad to hear your opinion on that matter.
Right now mine is patched to 100 with net.max_halfopen set to 50.
I don't know myself, but the uTorrent FAQ talks about setting the patch no higher than 50 and that the half open be less than what the patch is set to.
First... hello !I have read your guide and it helped me alot.. but i have a problem with port forwardig..thing is my router type is not listed on Portforward site.I am sure that my ports arn't forwarded as i ran the test.. and it sayed it's not forwarded...
now im out of ideas how to solve this problem:S
any helpful tips r welcome!
Can you find another version of your router make or model at port forward? Quite often, different versions and models are similar. That actually worked for me when my router wasn't listed. You should at least be able to access your router and look around.
Hmm.. WEll il give it a try..
thnx a lot
hey guys..i got a small question lol. i haven't been using torrents for a long time..so i still have utorrent 1.6++. i connected to a torrent and saw that everyone is using at least 1.7+ already. isit a must to upgrade to ensure i get better speeds? lol thanks in advance
Not at all, in fact I think a lot of members here have stayed with 1.6.
When u said go to http://www.broadbandreports.com/tweaks i went there and it says Attention Satellite Users: DO NOT USE THIS TOOL. What does this mean because im using a Toshiba laptop and it says Satellite above the keyboard in the corner so....... does that mean i cant use it. can someone send me a private message or somthing cuz there are alot of replies here
Don't quote me but I gather you are connected to the internet through a satellite dish rather than a particular ISP: http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid7_gci528672,00.html
Oh i get it i thought it was a type of computer that wouldt work. I use a cable modem(Roadrunner) so i dont think it will be a problem right.
Should be fine. Is there any particular problem you're having?
No I got it now thanks. But there is another problem im having. Are you familiar with ratDVD if so could you check out my thread
Not at all familiar with ratDVD but sounds like a DVD compatible file. Maybe ImgBurn? (free)
ImgBurn should burn the extracted VIDEO_TS if it's complete: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burn_dvd_folder_imgburn.cfm Have a look and see what you think.
Ok i tried it bu when i click VIDEO_TS it actually opens the folder displaying the contents.I just selected everything in the folder and burned it following that guide of course. So i dont know if thats right but well see in a while.
is anyone else having much slower download speeds with the most recent beta of uTorrent? the last beta worked great, and now I peg out at about 60kbps...
