I have followed the guide above
    i have a slim with firmware 3.71
i get to the line that says
Just place the Magic Memory Stick in the PSP and then place the Datel Tool/Hardmodded Battery into the PSP and a menu should come up
i have purchased a Datel tool
I place the Datel and memory stick in and i get a green powered light (yes i did charge up the Datel), no screen, no menu
I have read in other posts re: slim has no screen but you push x or o or such to enable a firmware update and watch the corresponding power/accessing memory stick, lights to show that read/write is occuring. This does not happen either

    any ideas?

Make sure your placing the memory Stick in first then place the Datel Tool battery in.

If this still doesn't work then try re-creating the Magic Memory Stick on a different Memory Stick.

Vista has issues with some when creating the Magic memory Stick. If your running Vista please try to find a PC running XP and use that to run the easy installer.

sometimes, placing the battery first, then the magic memory stick works better. that way, the psp will activate service mode first, and then load the ipl from the memory stick.

I used to tell others to put the Battery in first then the memory Stick but allot of users had issues doing it that way. They had to add the memory Stick in first then the Battery to have the menu come up.

Either way they should try it both ways.

If it still doesn't work then try re-creating the Magic memory Stick using the same Memory Stick. If that doesn't work then try another memory Stick.

It is also recommended to use XP as the OS when running the easy installer. So if you have Vista and are having issues then Vista could be the problem.

yeah, no fake memory sticks should be used. only use genuine sony or sandisk (256 or 512; anything else is super overkill)

and i doubt vista sp1 will fix the easy installer problem. (but there is overall improvement in sp1 RC)

After you 'mod' your PSP can you format the memory stick and use it normally or do you need to have those files on it to physically work with the custom firmware.

Yes you can format your memory stick and still have custom firmware. You can also keep the files on the memory stick if you want and it will still work.

To sambouka: The datel battery is a pandora battery it wont work without a memory stick. If you have memory stick with the universal unbricker and it doesnt work then you didnt install the files correctly. So if you dont have the memory stick correct or no memory stick at all then Yes a black screen is normal.

Thank you larry and other senior posters
mine through trial and error since last post seemed to be the latter
    battery first, memory card second
but none of this would have been vaguely possible without your guide/s

very happy with now 2 slims firmware flashed since last post
    =)

That was a typo and has been corrected. It was supposed to read 3.71.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if you choose option 2 on this screen:

Places a code on the MS that forces a service mode battery to boot straight to the PSP's XMB, like a normal battery would.

This option lets you boot the Pandora Battery as normal Battery. To boot with Pandora Menu you will need to press whatever button is set for it to boot to. I think this version and most are L-Trigger.

So if you want to boot to Pandora Menu hold the L-Trigger down while turning on the PSP.

To boot normal just power on the PSP.

If you use this method all Memory Sticks you use on the PSP that has the Pandora Battery must have option 2 installed to it.

Lets say you want to make a Magic memory Stick. You first run the easy installer to install the Universal Unbricker V3 files to it.

Then after your done start the easy installer and do option 2 "install Booster's Boot code" you can then boot the PSP normal with the Magic memory Stick or press L-Trigger to boot to Pandora Menu.

Lets say you want to use a normal memory Stick (without the Universal files) all you do then is start the easy installer and choose option 2 "install Booster's Boot code" now the PSP will boot normal when turning on the PSP even when the Battery is converted to a Pandora Battery.

I have no idea if this is compatible with a Datel Tool Battery or a Hardmodded Battery. Others would have to test it out to see if it works. If any does test it out on a Datel Tool Battery or Hardmodded Battery then let others know what the results are.

*Larry* - UK PSP user here.
I've just ordered a 'TOOL' from Datel, which should be with me at the beginning of February. I bought my PSP a couple weeks ago, have firmware 3.71 on it, and obviously am looking to unlock it so I can use SNES and GENESIS / MEGADRIVE emulators on it.
Couple questions, if your cool with that.
I'm downloading the Sendspace files, as I type, will this method work with a PAL PSP, such as I have here in the UK?
Also, I have ZSNES and GENS, Super Nes and Genesis / Megadrive emulators installed on my laptop - I have hundreds of ROMs for these (BIN files etc). Will these ROMs be compatible with the emulators I download for my PSP once it is 'open'?
Also, a friend of mine at work mentioned ISO files (CD image files?) - for playstation games. Now, forgive my childish giddiness, but does that mean that it will be possible for me to play Final Fantasy 7 on my PSP ( I own the original game on Playstation, so legalities aren't a problem)?
Is the PSP able to do this? I've heard of POP something or other, and if I get a 4GIG memory stick (I'll be using my 1GIG for the 'magic stick' stage of cracking) will I be able to have all my favourite PS1 games on my PSP?
I'm a retro gamer geek at heart, and still have all my old SNES, GENESIS, Dreamcast (god, if I could play DC on PSP!!) and PS1 games in the shop - but we are bound by the threat of Nintendo's pirate killing Ninjas to not crack or copy any files / ISO's that we have (the trouble we've had with Gamecube!!)
Anyway, the main point of this mail is to ask you for a private message conversation - I know that it is stupid to put email addresses up on a public forum like this, but if there is a way...I don't want to say anymore, I hope you see what I'm getting at. If you can get in touch with me, then we can go from there.
And everyone else reading this post - Hell yeah!!
    PSP rules!!

ok it says that the memory card has to be less then 4gb, will a 4gb sandish card work just as good as the 256 and 568mb cards, and if so can it get any long/short term dmg (assuming u do it right)? thanks.
