Ok after lots of newbies all asking the same questions I have decided to write you all a guide which will let you know if your PSP can play iso's and how to achieve this.

I will tell you how to bring your PSP up to the latest 3.02 OE-B firmware which can play ISO's, homebrew apps and PS1 Games.
I will also show you where to get all the files needed.

    What Firmware do I have?
    Lets start at the beginning.
First your going to need to check which firmware version your psp is running.
To do this start up your psp and in the main menu go to 'settings' and then scroll down to 'system settings' then scroll right down to where it says 'system information'. Now you see where it says System Software and there is a number next to it? Well thats the firmware version of your psp... remember this as its pretty vital to the next steps.

    Is my Firmware Compatible?
Ok now you know the firmware version here is the moment of truth, if you have anything higher than 2.71 then I can not help you and you might as well stop reading this.
The rest of you may continue, you should be playing iso's very shortly :)

2.80 can be done but apparently this is risky and I have no experience in the subject so I am not covering it right now in this guide.

    What Next?

Now depending on your firmware version there will be various steps you must take.
The first step is for everybody and must not be skipped.
You must determine weather or not your PSP contains a TA-082 motherboard, check this picture and examine your psp very carefully under a bright light.
    http://pspupdates.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/56713/ta82spot1.jpg

If you find you do have a TA-082 then scroll down to the section headed TA-082 Method, if you don't have a TA-082 then proceed to the section headed NON TA-082 Method

For both methods it is reccomended that your psp has a fully charged battery.

    NON TA-082 Method

A quick overview of what your going to be doing is as follows:

Update your psp to version 2.71
    Downgrade to version 1.50
    Update to version 3.02 OE-A
    Update to version 3.02 OE-B

    So...
    Updating to 2.71
The first thing your going to have to do is to download and install the official sony 2.71 update. There are 2 exceptions from this: The first obviously if your psp is already version 2.71 then you can skip this step and second if you are lucky enough to already have a psp that is at version 1.50 then you should leave it at that and proceed to the section titled 'Update to version 3.02 OE-A'.
Here is the link to the official sony 2.71 update for all of you that need it.
    http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/47
Once installed go back to your psp's menu and verify that your system software says that it is 2.71, do not proceed to the next step until you have a 2.71 psp.

Downgrading back to 1.5 from 2.71
You need to do this as you must be on version 1.5 before you can install any custom firmware or homebrew.

The program to do this can be found here:
    http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/755
This program contains all the files you need and fully talks you through the process while you perform the downgrade.
DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR PSP during this step otherwise you will permanently brake it!
When complete, double check that you have successfully downgraded your psp to the 1.5 firmware.

    Update to version 3.02 OE-A
    Download the following package:
    http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/966
Run the program with your psp connected via usb and it will place all the files you need in the correct location.
Once the program has completed, go to your psp menu and scroll across to 'Game' and then scroll down to the memory stick and enter this menu.
Now a file should show up called '3.02 OE-A Firmware install', start this file and the on-screen guide should direct you through the instalation.
Again it is VERY important that you do not turn off your psp during this step, as if you do it will not boot up again...ever.
Leave the psp plugged into the charger just to be safe.

When this process is completed, verify that your psp is version 3.02 OE-A from the system menu.

    Update to version 3.02 OE-A
Download and extract the following file:
    http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/978
Place the folder called OEB_UPDATE inside the /PSP/GAME150 folder on your PSP and again go to 'Game' on your psp and scroll down to the memory stick and this time begin the 3.02 OE-B update program. This program is very quick and will complete in just a few seconds but it is again vital that your psp is not turned off during the process.
After confirming that your psp is now at version 3.02 OE-B you can now relax as the process is complete!
You can now enjoy loading ISO's, homebrew and PSone games directly from your memory stick.

    Just a quick note:
ISO's go in the ISO folder - Obvious I know but you never know....
PSone Eboot's go in the PSP/GAME folder of the memory stick.

    TA-082 Method

OK I am lazy... Here is a guide written by touran22 for the TA-082 downgrade, I hope you don't mind buddy.
I also saw no point in spending my time writing whats already been said but just a little differently.
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/441460

This guide will get you onto a version 1.5 psp and from there follow my guide above beginning from the section labeled as Update to version 3.02 OE-A

I'm going to add screenshots too when I get time......

    FAQ

    Is this safe?
If you follow the instructions then yes it is, however there is still a small element of risk that you may permanently brake your psp. This is your risk so don't blame me if you brick the psp - I didn't write the programs!

    Is it reversible?

Yes, you can return to version 1.50 at any time and then upgrade back to any official sony firmware you want.

    Does it void my warranty?
If you are unable to remove the custom firmware for any reason such as your psp screen is damaged or some other fault then your chances of claiming on the waranty are very slim. Don't say I didn't warn you :)

All you need to do is create the GAME150 folder as it doesnt create it for you.
