oooooo man, im not really supposed to be postin around here but i just noticed how much trouble you are in and thought i would stop by.

well you see the thing is, there is no real way of getting your files back unless you use the tools that ddp suggested, this is because the type of program you are talking about exists, but the problem is that whenever you use a program like that, you have to save states within that program, it can not restore just after you install it, correct me if im wrong but thats virtually impossible.

the only thing to do in my opinion is to go through with a un-delete program searching for wildcards or file names and see if you can recover all of your documents.

otherwise the best idea is to in fact use the inbuilt windows system restore.

    hope this helps

i personally prefer to use Norton Ghost, what happens with that is that when you select the job you want to do, it will restart your computer and burn an image of your ENTIRE hard drve to a cd or dvd in a compressed image, and if something like a virus infects your computer, you can insert your disk into the drive, restart your computer and tell it to re-install everything, and it will replace all of the data on your Hard Drive, after erasing it all, and it will be the exact same as when you made the backup in the first place.

Is the recycle bin still on the desk top? If it left when you deleted everything on the dest top, maybe it still has all the shortcuts and your file. Search for the recylce bin on hard drive. If it's still there (on desktop) and doesn't have the file how did you get rid of the file twice?
