Well...I know how to work with the MKVextractGUI or MKVtoolNix and I already have the K-Lite Code Pack Full version installed. However, after the extraction, I used TMPEGEnc to import the H264 file, which was just extracted from the MKV, it worked but it took quite a bit of time(10 minutes or more) to import successfully. Assuming this is normal, but I doubt it. Here comes the problem. 1) Since my CPU is i7 extreme 965, which was overclocked to about 3.8ghz and my graphic card was radeon 5870. I doubt that it would be fast if not real fast...But it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes or more to import the H264 file, which is about 1.1GB. 2) After importing, for you guys who are familar with the GUI and layout, there is a button for editing/cutting. If you click on it, you should be able to select the portion of the movie and frame. Usually you will see the movie if you play it. However, the whole screen just turned black and the process took quite a long. After the conversion was done half way through, I just aborted it just to see what the result was but the outcome was the movie had no sound, and then it played just like snail(everything seemed to be in slow motion). Just wonder if H264 is indeed supported by TMPEGEnc authoring 4? Or there is something missing which I don't really know about?
Why extract? Open the MKV file directly In Tmpgenc. Make sure the directshow plugin is enabled in the settings.
Already have directshow plugin enabled in the reference setting, but it didn't work...Could yu really show me how to get it work? My MKV contains a bunch of subs and bunch of audios. Use MKVMerge. Open it and deselect all the streams except the video. Save as a new MKV and open it in TmpgEnc.
It still doesn't work and I think you might have to guide me through the set up of the TmpgEnc authoring 4.
You're trying to use Tmpgenc Author to encode and then author a DVD ? The usual method is that you input the video (your MKV), and as necessary, the audio and subtitles (separate files). You set the encode parameters and run it. Where is it failing? There are some guides on Afterdawn about the general use of this SW and you should review those. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/tmpgenc_dvd_author_guide.cfm http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/advanced_tmpgenc_dvd_author_guide.cfm http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/TMPGEnc_DVD_Author_3_DVD_Authoring_Guide_page1.html
Well where it fails? As soon as I imported the MKV video, the plain mkv video, no sound and subtitles attached.
Try simplifying the path and the file name to see if it makes any difference. For example, c:\myfile.mkv Do you have this problem with any other source files, or just this one ?
I still have this problem with all mkv files and even I abbreviate the path or file name. Not sure why...It would be great if somebody could help.
See this thread - does it help ? http://www.videohelp.com/forum/arch...vobsub-cannot-load-avi-with-subs-t326645.html
awwww...They are unrelated....And not sure if that would help import the mkv file. Don't u mean that I should convert the mkv into avi first before doing the importing?
Tmpgenc is perfectly capable of importing MKV directly; it uses the directshow plugin and usually works pretty well. Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Haali splitter ? You may be able to remux the video and audio into an avi container. (except aac audio will not work as-is) I certainly wouldn't want to re-encode the video first and lose a generation of quality.
well...I use k-lite code pack for all sorts of my movies...Not sure if that would be the problem...As you said, I'd like to import MKV, which won't lose the quality and when converting into avi, quality will lose.
I upload mkv files to convertxtodvd and it works, and I use the Vista Codec Pack. Don't know if there is a difference with the codecs and authoring programs though.
This thread is going around in circles. I would advise you uninstall all codec packs, and anything else left behind (xvid, divx , haali, ffdshow, coreavc, what ever else you find in the add/remove programs) Then install a fresh version of ffdshow and haali splitter. When FFDshow is installed, open the video decoder config and select "codecs" on the left. On the right, make sure H264/AVC is set to Libavcodec. Retry the MKV in Tmpgenc. If it still doesn't work, install avisynth and use directshowsource to import the media file.
I apologize if I went off topic at all, just mentioned how it could be a codec pack issue. I agree to uninstall all codec packs, and start over. I don't think you need to fool around with ffdshow. I believe that for example, ffdshow is in the vista codec pack (good for xp and windows 7 too). Good luck!
