I have a couple of files with a .h265 extention. They were extracted from a .mkv. I can re-encode this (actually the .mkv) to .mp4 using x264, however this will take some time to encode. I would really like to encode straight to mpeg-2. I cannot find any info on .h264 files other than "they are not commonly used"... Also, if I have to do it in 2 steps (encode with x264 to .mp4 and then from .mp4 to .mpv/m2v), should I use Advanced Profile and lossless mode or would this create a file that I cannot use? I would like to lose as little quality as possible. Also, is there a way to create an uncompressed avi out of the .mkv or .x264? That would work better for me.
Thanks for the link. I went ahead and encoded it into .mp4 lossless and it worked ok, just it took 3 hours to do and it was a step that was not necessary. I will check out mediacoder. This will be great if it saves time and has some advanced options.
