Ok, Ive been having all the same problems everyone else has so I finally went with using any dvd in the backround and running shrink and......IT WORKED!!!! YAY!!!! And now for the bad news, I tried playing it back and it's good for aout the 1st 3 chapters and then it constantly keeps cutting out sound and tweaking out. Nothing is wrong with the original, no scratches at all. Any suggestions? Ive been struggleing with this movie for FAR too long. All help is appriciated.

Unfortunately, I already tried ANYDVD trial version, so it wouldnt let me install and do another trial. Anyone know how to get around that? :)

I tried several ways that failed. So I tried the anydvd and shrink. shrink said it was successful, but like the previous poster - audio is skipping. AND pressing root menu gets you to the toshiba boot screen and the system hangs - you have to power cycle it to reset it. and it's a regular dvd player - not a drive in a PC.

There are ways, but unfortunately we can't help you be a better pirate. Buy the program if it works for you, I think it's on sale ATM.

    Hello all...

I just downloaded the new update for AnyDVD and I still get the "VOB1" error as soon as I click "Copy DVD" on the AnyDVD Ripper. Is there something else I might be missing here? Thanks so much!

Okay, I will just buy AnyDVD since I cant get it to let me do a trial again.

Do I want AnyDVD or AnyDVD HD though? (I read the descriptions, but am not familiar with HD-DVD and BluRay, so I dont know if I actually need AnyDVD HD. It says AnyDVD HD has everything AnyDVD has but with the added features and is actually cheaper, which you'd think it would be more expensive, so should I just do that one?)

This site is awesome, thanks so much for everyones help!!

I would say future proof yourself and go for the HD version, afterall there are free updates for life.

I always back up my movies with RIFM 1-click mode then DVD Decrypter and then Shrink. Never problems, but on the rare occasion I ran into problems, I would use DVDFab then VOBblanker and then Shrink. All Freeware that I love!! Now as with many of you I am encountering issues with backing up my copy of Hairspray. RIFM continues to have issues using 1-click mode or wizard mode. DVDFab 3 (the old one, Im in the process of getting the new one) also will not read it. I no longer have AnyDVD and am skeptical of getting it, as it seems it may also have issues. So if anyone gets a copy which is viewable, using the above products (or otherwise) please let me know.

I appear to have been successful using the new DVDFab Platinum 4. I haven't checked it yet, but at least it read "successfully". I'm still at a loss as to why even the AnyDVD upgrade that supposedly included a fix for Hairspray will not work. For the most part, I have found AnyDVD to be the MOST reliable of all the options I've tried (DVDFab, VOB Blanker) so I'm disturbed I can't get it to work with this one.

yeah your best bet is to buy it good call remember to use the coupon code Thanksgiving to receive 20% off!!

if you aren't planning to use a HD-DVD and Blu-Ray optical drive in the near future(which are about 800.00 plus dollars) just get the regular version of anydvd

it worked fine for me using clonedvd 2. Try not using the anydvd ripper and let anydvd run in the background while using clonedvd 2 to transcode doing the movie only. Some drives have a problem transcoding hard to do titles .Can you try transcoding with a different drive?

Yes, I tried with my normal "burn" drive as well as the normal "write" drive. I'll try the CloneDVD thing with AnyDVD just in the background. Thanks!

are the people that say it worked, did you actually play the disk? I thought I was successful, but when I play the disk, the audio is choppy and the video runs a bit fast at times.

Interesting (and unfortunate) observation. Mine has appeared to copy successfully as well ( using the CloneDVD method ) but I will do a QC check later this evening.

I agree with the AnyDVD/DVD Shrink problem. I said that it worked perfectly for me because I thought it had, that is until I started trying to watch it. Same problem with audio/video skipping. So I downloaded CloneDVD 2(again trial version). I ran AnyDVD in the background and ripped with CloneDVD 2 and I think it actually worked. I am at least half way through the movie and no problems yet. I will write with my final result.

From the sounds of things, it appears both AnyDVD + CloneDVD 2 may be needed to do Hairspray right. We've seen this in the past, AnyDVD works properly with Clone, but not with other programs. Reminds me of what I heard: They're made for each other. ;)

For those who haven't tried it, if AnyDVD isn't working with Shrink, Recode, or another transcoder, give CloneDVD 2 a try.

If you use AnyDVD ver. 6.2.0.1 in conjunction with your compression/burning software of choice, you should have no problems with this disc....
