Halo 2 won't play???

I have two boxes that have been modded for years now. I have had a few games that would reset the box back to the default dash... I just usually figure, hmmm.... bad rip? Well I have extracted Halo 2 and ftp'd it to both boxes. Both boxes are identical in bios and dashboard setup. One plays it fine and the other crashes back to default dash. Now I know that it has to be something with the xbox and not the game cause one plays it fine and the other doesn't.
